Mindarie Night Fish - Weather Conditions
Submitted by Adam Gallash on Thu, 2006-10-12 10:03
For those signed up for the Mindarie Night Fish next Saturday, I was wondering what conditions would warrant the night being put off until the following week. I just want to make sure that you will all feel safe and confident with going out there. Each skipper has their own opinion on what they deem is acceptable conditions for their own boat so I would just like to know what you guys think.
I know that atleast one of you is in a tinny, what is the worst conditions you feel safe with taking your boat out at night?

Weather
I have always stuck to anything worse than yellow on the Seabreeze site and I won't head out. I think it will most likely be a sea breeze in the evening so as long as it stays below 18knots its fishable (preferably 10 - 15knots). Anything above that and I would probably be sticking inshore on the pick and burleying up.
Cheers

Nite Sortie
might be a bit of swell to drive around to get up to Staggies...
15-20knts and I watching TV.
Maybe the weekend after as you have a few 'nite newbies'
Otherwise might be safer to fish OR 3 Mile...
Plus a few crew might get a bit crook with a swell running in the dark...nothing to focus on other than the bottom of the boat....which isnt conjusive to having a brite night

agree
Anything over 15knts and over 2 mtr swell it is a bit much for me. Still safe to go out but to uncomfortable to fish and if it did start to blow it makes for a long trip home. Will see what the weather is doing a few days out before i decide to can it.

My thoughts!
If it's over 15 knots I would suggest canceling, if it's over 2.5m swell I'd suggest cancelling also. I do go out in higher wind strenghts but far more comfortable under 15 knots..................fingers crossed eh!

No probs Salmo, we'll forgive ya this once. I'm staying at Ob City next Friday night so I'll see what the conditions are like Saturday morning and give you all a buzz to confirm departure or delay until the following Saturday.
Everyone, Saturday the 21st is the day of the Mindarie Night Fishing Invitational. :)

15 knots plus is enough to
15 knots plus is enough to keep me out of the water at night and 2m+ of swell would make for some sloppy fishing conditions, can get pretty average in close with all those reefs but is ushally OK once you get outside the 3 mile, will just keep hoping for some nice conditions

My hookah I bought of a mate
My hookah I bought of a mate who is a welder and he built it himself, to buy new they are pretty pricey ,but aslong as the filters, oil are changed regularly and the engine is reliable you cant go wrong, but maintenance is very important. I dive on tanks at 20m plus ,but the hookah is tops for anything shallower ,which is where we dive for crays all season, no bulky tanks and unlimited time (within the charts ).....
Cheers Andy

Yeah I no what you mean
Yeah I no what you mean about bulky tanks. When I Used a hookah my mate was using tanks and he couldnt get under the ledges I could to get the crays. Plus its always good to no that your always attatched by a hose to the boat.(I dont want a movie about me like the movie OPEN WATER).

Mindarie Night Fish
Just checked seabreeze, not looking good for Saturday at this early stage, but Sunday looks like its going to be a corker. :( Here's hoping that things change for the better as the week goes on.

Hmmmmmm, unfortunately Adam,
Hmmmmmm, unfortunately Adam, my spare time is at a premium at the moment, bloody busy life for many reasons, so i'm basically down to one fish trip a week, be that shore based, boat based(Ryans boat generally) or out in my dinghy, soooooo unfortunately i've had to pull the pin on saturday night. I spoke with Mr Snapper today and he's ok with it, he still has his original deckie lined up, so i haven't let him down.
I've been wanting to fish off Shikari for ages, so when this came up, i had to jump at it, When i did, my dear lovely wife reminded me of our once a week agreement, bless her cotton socks...:-D, so unfortunatelt saturday night lost...
Good Luck to all involved though

Who's scared of a little electrical storm?
Ummmm?????
Looks great from a wind perspective but as long as they are isolated thunder storms confined to the hills, we'll be right.
Cheers

Looking ok
Still looking ok at this stage. A bit of rain wont keep me away. As long as the wind drops a little should be ok. Will make a final descision on friday arvo.
Just make sure your not the one with the biggest fishing rod when the lightning strikes. lol

Thunderstorm!
I'm not saying electrical storms are okay but a bit of dark cloud and a flash every so often doesn't worry me personally nor keep me off the water.......each to their own!

Looking dodgy at the moment!!
BOM are forecasting 13-18knots in the evening. We might get lucky and the winds ease early and build late, but its looking very borderline at present. May have to wait for the 4-00am forecast in the morning to get a more accurate view.
Offshore will be heaps worse than inshore, so I'm still in two minds how to approach it.
Cheers
