Lever drag reel, handle hard to turn when drag pressure on
G'day fishwrecked crew
I purchased a jigging master power spell pe3 reel (black and gold colour) around 12 months ago. I have only used the reel on 3 occasions, and to be honest it has caught very minimal fish thus far. After a recent fishing trip I was placing my reels in my fishing cupboard, and I always lightly wash and lubricate my reels before putting them away. I noticed that the handle was a lot harder than usual to turn.
I own plenty of different reels of various makes and models and am fully aware of the need to take good care of my fishing equipment. I also understand that the drag adjustment preset knob, should only be adjusted whilst the reel is in free spool. I did remove the 4x hex head screws from the reel side plate and did a brief inspection of the gears and to see if there was anything obvious which could be an issue. The problem is only when the reel has the drag pushed up to "strike" and certainly not in free spool. The handle of the reel when it is in "strike" is very hard to turn.
I have not modified the reel in any way since purchase and as mentioned, it has done minimal work and has been regularly cleaned in the correct manner. I was wondering if you have seen instances such as this in the past? And if there was anything specifically I can do to fix the behaviour?

I've had this on a number of reels. Usually it can be fixed by putting lever in free spool, dialing the drag all the way off. I'm not sure why it works but usually I will give the handle a few cranks before setting the dial but up and resetting the drag. I think I've caused it by pushing the dial too far in and maybe a spring or something jams

I actually emailed jigging master in Taiwan direct. Their customer service and response was surprisingly good. Looks as though if I send it back to them, they will service and or repair as needed. I did try the method you made mention above, however no real change with the pressure needed to turn the handle.
