they used to get jacks and fingermark in the river up untill the great flood in 2006, which wiped out the sand spit. Then they dissapeared. But ive heard rumers that they are reappearing in small numbers.

You will need to do a search but he gives a couple of likely spots for chasing mulla. There is heaps of archived info on the board - but you could do worse than starting with Chinamans at night.

Head to the boat hire place.

Head to the boat hire place. for $5 they will take you across the river. Directly on the other side not 2m from shore there is a very distinguished gutter. You cant miss it. it runs all the way to the rivermouth.

Last time i fished said gutter i hooked something that felt large and fishy. gave me a reasonable work out on a 15kg rod and a twinpower 10000.

Are you only focusing on the river or can you get to ocean spots?

Easy as.

Red bluff on the beach has delivered me with tailor and pleny of shark action.

If you have a 4wd Wittecarra creek, its the same stretch as Red bluff, however this holds a few more fish as it receives a bit more swell and seems deeper.

If your feeling adventurous take the boat across the river and fish the beachie areas around frustrations. This spot has always produced Tailor. On our last expedition up the we landed 7 mulloway. The first boat is a 8am and the last boat back is at about 5. If you can stay the night on the north side i would recommend it.

As stated before Chinamans is also a good spot to fish. easily accessible and has produced plenty of good fish.

Sorry about the long reply. Hope it helps.

My friend friend hooked up

Wed, 2010-09-15 09:11

My friend friend hooked up to something atleast 3kg on his bream rod on the main jetty, deffs a jack as it was in the pylons before he knew it. see if u can hire a boat and go down the river 12kilometers to a place called castle rock, catch 40cm+ bream and decent sized soapies. Jeremy J's spot on about the gutter on the other side of the river, big gutter, 60cm+ tailor hang around there and we got two bream at 33cm each. Try to get fresh bait, as there are mullet down under the main jetty and keep them for bait. if not, buy a pack of IQF mulies, they do the trick. I have seen roosta poppers 105 in the blue and white colour catching tailor, and get richter plugs as they work really well aswell (white colour is best i think) for smaller stuff (whiting, small bream, tiny mulloways) there are plagues of them around the boat hire, try the west side. they'll hit anything.
