ay fellas coming there next month fishing 2 days with shikari charters for sambos
im from SA and
down here for jigging for kings and tht we usally use a bimitwist attached to a wind on leader about 5 to 15 foot of 120-150lb. then jst a uni knot to the swivel then jig
now will this method be suitable for those big sambos
i have read on her bout all thes knots liek the pr and gt knot used for attachin braid to normal leader.
if i use this tecnique wil i be safe with those big sambos ? or should learn the methods you'se all use there ? if yes what are they etc
thanks boys

You'll be right mate
pretty much all most guys do. I go bimini-gt-150lb jinkai leader-uni-swivel.

I know some guys use windons
I know some guys use wind-ons but its not something I have tried or would bother with too be honest.
I would just get a roll of Varivas leader and tie them. The bimni to GT knot will do fine and even the albright holds if tied well. I have a PR bobbin coming as I am soon to become a converted PR knot user. You only have to watch how hard guys like Daz fish their gear to know how bloody good that knot is - slim as well.

Learn to tie the FG Schecky,
Learn to tie the FG Schecky, even smaller than the PR, quicker to tie (with practice) and doesn't require a bobbin.

you should be alright mate, i do what mattmiller does, bimini to gt then a uni knot to my ballbearing swivel. only difference is i use 100lb, dont really need more than that, just make sure your knots are good.

Use the
whole 10ft mate. I'd consider 5ft abit short. Just bring a spool of say 120-150lb leader and practice some connections for if/when you run out. Considering the sharks i'd be tying them.

bimini to GT then uni or
bimini to GT then uni or locked half blood knot to the swivel. I use either 80lb or 100lb leader, about 7 feet or so. I sometimes start the day with a PR knot but change to the bimini/GT for "out on the water" re-rigging sessions.

I do a little bit different.
I do a little bit different. Bimini to no-name/bristol knot - 2 rod lengths (120lb jinkai) and a uni to the swivel.

Used the Yucatan...
...for demersals and was good for five or so fish up to 14kg but then let go on a rat sambo (around 5/6 kg) last week and lost a $30 jig
so I would say that it's a good knot but you'd have to keep checking it/retying it every couple fish, maybe every single fish if it's big sambos?
As said before, Albright is good if tied properly...have caught 20ish kg sambos with no dramas on that one, and that was PE3 with 60lb leader, but end of the day, the GT is the most tried-and-true one out there.

no bobbin required for a GT
no bobbin required for a GT knot. Easy to tie but hard to describe, there will be a link and pictures somewhere

Get Al Bevan to show you his
Get Al Bevan to show you his GT knot / roll knot, what ever they call it :-)
I have been using it for 5 years now and it's never let me down, best leader to braid knot around with a full bimini twist on the braid.
you will learn it in seconds, pratice a few times and you will use that knot everywhere you fish.
