Ice box, which one?

Hi all, I'm want to buy a decent icebox aprox 70 - 100lt.  I have looked at a few different types at BCF and other camping stores, but I don't know which one is best.  Also I think there are fibreglass and plastic boxes, are they both just as good.  I have looked at site sponsors, Extreme Coolers website and they look alright, but like i mentioned, I have never had a good icebox so I don't know what I am looking for or what to expect from a good icebox.

I was hoping you good people could give some advice in what I should look at.

Thanks heaps.

Look up Xtreme Coolers, not because they are a sponsor, but because they have some great boxes.

Get one with good seals and hinges.

Have heard good things about the Xtreme coolers, Haven't got one myself because I've already got two big ones but if I had to replace one I know where I'd go.

If you are prepaired to spend a liitle bit more get a Baileys.

You will never buy another ice box again.

I have one and it seems to be

I have one and it seems to be going ok. However, the lid has kinda popped a little (shuts fine, just not flat in the middle) and the hinges showed signs of a little rusting (squirted some inox in there though).  However, it shuts well, seems reasonably well made (apart from top delaminating, but that was in a hooooooot car). Left a bag of ice in there for over 24hrs in my car (my car is black) and there was still some ice kicking around. Also, the seals seem good as I found out after discovering a week later that there were a few cray legs still in the esky..... Nothing can prepare you for that shock (and there was no hint til i opened the lid, haha). The bung could be a little easier to tighten (has a cross shape, not flat) and doesnt have a 'tag' to stop it getting lost. The box is a quite square, compared to some rounded versions. I dunno, I just prefer the square aethetics :p. Oh, and its a light grey/white, so doesnt seem to get as hot as those dark blue ones. Considering a extreme cooler for a bigger replacement sometime though.

I've had a few ice boxes.

I've had a few ice boxes. Best box I've owned (and still have) is the EvaKool Fibreglass ice box.

I've had a few poly boxes - they don't keep ice as long as the fibreglass box. I've even had the lid of a 200L poly box warp on the sun up in Exxy.

They are a few dollars more, but definitely consider a fibreglass box.

Bunnings

Mon, 2011-04-04 12:24

Picked up a 140lt one from bunnings for just over $200. Been a great box, flawless. Reckon its better than the stuff you get at BCF etc. Not to mention a hell of a lot cheaper.
