In Perth, I usually bring 2-3, a jigger and casting/plastics rod. I have a few outfits, so depending on the plans I tailor to suit. Too easy to overload a boat if you bring everything =0

I like to travel light.  I use to bring just one rig, but due to deckie influences, I now take two.  Casting and a jigger.

tow trolling, two bottom

Sat, 2010-08-07 12:19

two trolling, two bottom bouncing, one jiggin, one flick-stick and a longer casting rod to get lures out with = 7

and thats just for me :-)
my son has two and one for the wife is she is in the mood for fishing, so ten is the total onboard.

Sat, 2010-08-07 13:16

If I had to take just one, it would be my Shimano Tcurve with Saltiga4500 on it, with that outfit I can catch just about anything, any where.
But then variety is the spice of life... :-)

3 bottom bouncers and three

Sat, 2010-08-07 13:51

3 bottom bouncers and three light spinners if  we bag out early or it's shite and we have to bring something in to save face. Whiting usually do the trick.

really depends. sometimes

Sat, 2010-08-07 14:12

really depends. sometimes only two, but usually around 4. sometimes more.

for metro I usually have:

bream rod with 8 or 10lb
plastics rod with 20lb (x2 sometimes)
light o/h for bay rubbers etc with 20lb
jig/plastics stick with 30lb

ocassionally also bring a trolling rod (30lb) or a heavier (50-80lb) jig stick.

my plastics rod with 20lb gets used the most out of the lot though.

2 max

Sat, 2010-08-07 17:11

2 rods per person on my boat max. know what your plan for the day is, and stick to it. otherwise you end up tripping over rods and tackle all day.

how many people use every rod they pack for the day?

nothing worse than having no trolling outfits onboard and seeing a school of yellowfin tuna smashing up bait fish.
or even more fun watching your mate getting spooled by a big tuna, cause all he got with him is a tld 20 with 25lb braid on it...lol

It really depends what we

Sat, 2010-08-07 18:39

It really depends what we are chasing. I find that if you give youself too many options, you do a little of everything and dont achieve much. if i am forced to stick to the plan then i usualy do better. Barra = 2 sails = 3 bottom = 2 (sp and jig) Popping = 1 ect

I think I have to agree with you there, I use to do much better when all I took was one rod and stuck to one style of fishing.  Too many rods and like you said, end up doing abit of everything and not achieving much.

we usually carry around 8

Sat, 2010-08-07 22:16

we usually carry around 8 rods if just 2 of us are going out, gotta have 1 for the kg's and other light stuff, 2 for bottom bouncing (1 as a backup) also use 1 for trolling,1 spin for throwing out a bait if a shark is around and to use for the release weight.1 medium range for shallower stuff. thats mine, now the bosses , she has 1 for the kg's , 1 for bottom bashing and 1 for trolling. cant forget the 2 snapper winches just in case. sometimes most get used , other times way too many but you just got to be prepared for anything

these days of limitedbag

Sun, 2010-08-08 08:19

these days of limitedbag limits,

you end up with two pelagic fish and two dermals, so that means 2 rods minimum. Then if you want a few skippy or kg for fun, that's another light outfit.
I won't go out, get two dermals in the first hour and then head home, for me it's about the whole day on the water and enjoying the day fishing. So I'm prepared for anyhting that comes along.
I have been out jigging before and got squat for the whole day and then headed in shallow, took out a bream outfit and made my day smily by hitting into the skippy and kgs and even some snoek.
If you go out to get a target fish, say a dhuie and a snapper, then prepared to go home happy, then one rod will do the trick.
it's horses for courses, each to his own..
