does anybody know anything about a 1976 volvo penta leg 240h/p.
just want to know if the pawl for lifting the leg up can be used to trim the boat as well, or will it cause damage?
have had two differant stories already.
ones says it is only for lifting the motor up in sallow water and for traveling.
thanks ron

Volvo leg
Fisho-ron, not quite sure what you mean by pawl, but I have a Volvo penta leg (270) of similar vintage. The leg is set up to both trim and tilt. That is why the ram works so slowly when almost fully lowered (ie. allows you to trim) and much faster when in tilt mode.

i think it will depend on the
i think it will depend on the length of the leg as well as where the water intake is. i know with the leg on my mercruiser you can trim a bit but got to be carefull not to lift too high, even tho the water intake is under the boat i have to be careful not to lift it too high as it will over rev as it will have less resistance. however the trim tabs are a great way for lifting the bough up . if you dont have the trim tabs on your tub it might pay to check them out as i wouldnt he without them on my boat and also makes a huge difference while travelling if you have set them right. no need to balance the weight out as it can be done with the tabs
