Help please! Yacht damage advice for new sailor
Submitted by straith on Mon, 2018-04-23 23:48
Hi all, just putting out feelers for a young friend whose just had a bit of bad luck with her 24ft yacht she bought 2nd hand in January.
Moored in Blackwall and got a call that it was semi submerged today.
Been pulled out now but shes unsure what next best step is regarding insurance (which she has) and repairs as she just had the hull cleaned not long ago and isnt sure if hole caused by that (not covered) or from recent storm on mooring maybe.
Just doesnt have the knowledge to be able to identify what likely cause was.
Can anyone recommend an honest repairer that might be able to advise her without ripping her off before she goes to insurer.
Cheers in advance for any helpful advice.

on a 24 foot yacht (assuming
on a 24 foot yacht (assuming it is glass and the hull is sound) there would be limited points for water to get in (no inboard motor) if the rudder is through hull (rather than stern mount) then it is likely it is the rudder glands/seals or any other through hull fittings (toilet?) or a possibility of that and rain water getting in
It should be pretty easy to diagnose -

Thanks guys!Sorry probably
Thanks guys!
Sorry probably wasnt clear enough. She found a small round hole in hull which seems to be the culprit.
Having just had the hull cleaned she thought maybe the process of cleaning had somehow pulled out an old repair/ barnacle or something similar.
She read her policy and apparently she found something that doesnt cover for damage incurred through cleaning... maybe if it turns out to be that she has to follow up with the cleaner
@ sunshine:Thanks for the offer! will def get in touch if she has trouble.
@ Swompa believe its fg, yeah i thought of keel join as the join is exposed from what i saw. Not sure about rudder. She's a shiftworker and had a 12 hour shift last night straight after the incident so havwnt been able to get any more info as shes obviously zzzzzz.
@pelagicyachts thanks for that will pass on to her.
Cheers again guys will update once i know more.
