In my younger days in central victoria, known for the largest nuggets in the world. Couldn't claim a big one myself but had mates collected a few the size of cricket balls and many more the size of golf balls. Detecters are great but it comes down to experience because you want find gold if it aint there.

Lasseter's reef
I was hitchhiking north out of kagoorlie one day years ago
Got picked up by a geo who had a theory that Lasseter
Forget the details- had his compass bearings ass about
And what he found was in fact Telfer.
Reckoned the distances matched and the bearings were opposite or some such.

Yea heard a very similar
Yea heard a very similar theory where the thought was that Lasseter never found the reef.
In fact it was his friend who found the reef and told Lasseter about it.
He had shown Lasseter a map he drew and as fate would have it he died a short time later.
Lasseter got hold of the map and went out looking for the reef some years later.
Unknown to Lasseter though the map had been drawn in reverse to protect his findings should he misplace the map.
Lasseter pretty much wandered around lost for most of his attempts at finding something he never actually found in the first place.
The lure of unimaginable riches in gold ultimately cost him his life.
BUT.....you never know, that is just a theory and the reef could still be out there waiting discovery
I will let you know how I go LOL
