Game Reel

Hey guys, looking to buy a new reel for gamex next year, already have the tiagra 30w for my 15kg outfit

and am looking to buy a 50w for my 24kg outfit.I was intending to buy the tiagra 50w lrs but after some research and speaking

to the staff at bluewater tackle im seriously looking at the okuma makaira 50w11,they seem to be an exceptionly well built reel

and they really seem to of done there homework.I think the main issue for most people will be getting there head around the fact

that they have okuma stamped on them,Cool what are your thoughts

Go tiagra or International

The Tiagra is a proven winner, I have the 50 and its been great, plus if you ever want to sell it you will get better resale. I think the tackle shop makes more money if they sell you the okuma....PS  I also have a 50 Penn International, also great!!!

cheers for the feedback seaswirl,my only concern is that the staff member i deal with at bluewater is a good freind and really knows  his stuff,he has also pulled the makaira apart and says  that the internals in this reel are superior to any other game reel he has seenCool

No commision!

There is no commision, so no reason to steer you toward a particular Brand. Also if it turns out to be crap you'd lose a customer. The Makaira is recommended on quality of build and has the best drag setup. This is coming from an INTER man.

google  the reel and there should be a review by Alan Tiani. he also rates them quite highly. Having said that I still went the Tiagra 50WLRS.

Interesting read

I'm a Shimano person so I'm biased.

Putting an Okuma alongside your existing Shimano Tiagra .......  in the words of the Enforcer 'you can't do that, there'll be hell to play'.  Wink

id be going a penn or

id be going a penn or shimano ... both are proven reels. ive had a penn50tw now for 15 years while pro fishing up north and last year i bought 3 more .. ive never serviced the 50 and only give it a spray with fresh water - id love to see a okuma survive some of the stuff ive done to my reel.

MAKAIRA 50WII

Wed, 2010-11-10 19:59

Cheers heaps for your feedback, think i might gamble with the makaira as that report gave it the highest grade of them all.with a service and some extra grease it was quoted to receive an A+.cant wait for gamexCool

Not an Okuma!

Wed, 2010-11-10 21:15

Although branded Okuma, these reels have been designed from scratch with the highest quality of materials including the grease used. Although Penn and Shimano are both outstanding they haven't changed much over those 15 years you talk about. Okuma has a better drag setup in  this reel. One of the advantages is the fact fishing heavy drag the Okuma is easier to wind than the others. The drag handles the heat and pressure better for longer. So although I'd agree with any other Okuma, this is a class apart than the usual.
