just read the post on the handpainted tinny and i thought it would make an interesting post.
what is some of the wierd/funny/great boat names have you seen?
our very first ski boat we ever bought was called SHAG KILLER.
some other boat names we have had include (we did not name these)
planet waves (ski boat)
total difiance (ski boat)
wet spot (ski boat)
point break (fishing boat)
rex grunt (my current tinny)
such is life (my current fishing rig)

Names
My boat is called "Wee Squirter" it is 5 metres and when it was built it had a jet units installed,hence small= Wee and the nickname for jet units is Squirter Sadly the jet didn't perform to my liking and was changed to a 60hp Etec but the name stays.

why did the jet not perform?
i know of somebody with a 25ft ally with a bigblock and a jet and he reckons it is awsome.
i have never been on it or seen it go so was just wondering?

Impellor wear
The smaller Castoldi jets use an ali impellor and with the sand caught up in the weed it wore enough off the impellor in a day to drop from 28 knots down to 7.Wore 1mm diameter off a 5inch diameter impellor cutting its efficiency down to near nothing.If they had a bronze one it would still be a jet,was magic while it lasted, 7-8 nm per litre from a 40hp Lombardini diesel at 20 knots.

the old stinker was harlequin, named previously because of the red hull, not so significant when they painted it white. dont have a boat anymore but my kayak is called AFRODISI-YAK, named after the yak was christened.. not with a bottle of shampers ;)

Is there any authority that is involved with respect to naming a boat or is that registration only. If no authority wouldn't that mean there could be a number of boats with the same name?

You can name your boat anything
And it doesnt matter if there is 20 boats with the same name. The Rego number is the Hull Identification Number (HIN) and that is registered.
This is off the top of my head.

Commercial boats
With amateur boats as Neels says there is no limit to how many have the same name but commercial boats there can only be one of the same name or with a 1,2 3 etc after it if some one still doesn't want to change.
