Hi guys,
I'm thinking of getting into some free diving.. for crays, crabs, occys etc
Can I get some tips, and what basic things are recommended for free diving... only intend on diving shallow water, around rock walls etc for now
Cheers

Join either WAUC or BFWA.
Join either WAUC or BFWA. You'll learn more in a month than you will in a year by yourself. You'll be able to borrow other peoples gear to see if you like it before you throw money away too. Make sure you harass people to go out though, the biggest mistake with new guys is not speaking up. WAUC are www.waundersea.com and BFWA are www.bluewaterfreediversofwa.com
One tip for you, dont dive with south africans, they attract whites.

Knife
ALWAYS dive with a knife, especially around rock walls. Fishing line could drown you and there is a few million klm's of it down there

Join a club
Always a good idea, they will help you out with the basics and "do & dont's"
Also never dive alone, always dive with a buddy, which the club usually has plenty of, there has been a couple of nasty accidents lately

Second that piece of advice
Second that piece of advice always dive with a buddy. Practice one up , one down as when you are diving at depth someone is always keeping an eye on you in case you experience shallow water blackout. Check out the link below it's is a good education into exactly what this is.

Big fins, a weight belt with
Big fins, a weight belt with enough weight to help you get down, especially if wearing a wetty, most bouyant things they are.
always bring a knife, i have one that you strap to your leg so its out of the way.
And yeah always dive with a buddy, normally we have one carrying a spear gun and one carrying a snare. Bring a dive bag also, so you dont have to keep swimming back to the boat/shore to drop your catch off, and its pretty essential you wear at least one glove thick enough to protect yourself from a cray going crazy!
Id rather be fishing
