 Maybe look at some of the US sites, from what I have seen, its quite common over there for people to run full spools of flourocarbon for freshwater.

A lot of Breamers fish straight flourocarbon (esp the Japanese guys) with great success, no extra rigging, just tie on a lure and away you go.

Can be hard to get fish/noticing strikes when you first start using straight through fluro obviously because of the stretch, tricky to set the hooks on fish and you won't be able to feel the action of the lure as easy through the rod tip.

but, there are lots of advantages. if the water you are fishing is extremely clear and the fish are timid and getting spooked easily, straight through will be more successful then a high visibility braid, helps with abrasion resistance if there is a lot of structure around. etc.

I have been using Yo Zuri 8lb Flurocarbon as a main line on my Trout Rods for the last 5 years and it has worked great. Even in Crystal Clear Streams down south(sometimes not so crystal clear hahaha) and even over in the Eastern States it has worked a treat. I find i dont like using braid when spinning for trout as often the areas i am casting for then are very tight with vegetation and i find the stiffness of mono better than braid for getting accuracy of casts. Plus if your accuracy isnt to good and you snag up on an overhead or snag it doesnt cost as much to replace line as opposed to braid.

I also do use these rods when going for bream and so far have been successful catching millions of undersized bream and a few legal ones. From what i have seen most bream fishers using lures use braid. When i am bream fishing i have found often you dont have the problem of trying to get a cast out without catching every bush and bit of blackberry around you so braid would be just as effective in accuracy.

Each has it's advantages so it depends what your after really. In addition to what the others have said flouro sinks quickly so it can help get your lures down a little further than they would run on braid. I do have to say I don't buy flouro being more accurate to cast with, I think that's down to the operator. I've fished straight through flouro & braid with leader quite alot & I can hit my intended target 9 out of 10 times with either. I think people don't allow themselves enough time to adjust to the differences in each line.

 On My bream stick I have One spool of 6lb braid and the other 4lb fluro have caught fish on both. i like that with fluro you just cut the the line and tie on a new lure. perfection loops are easy to tie. allbright with 6lb braid in a yak when its windy can be tricky

Id say flouro. the advantages of braid are pretty minimal for freshwater/bream style fishing. Your using light line and not casting a mile anyway, so u still get plenty of sensitivity. Plus u dont have to worry about tying on a leader every time u lose a lure to snags etc. and fluoro doesnt get annoying wind knots ;)
