Floreat Drain Break-Ins
Submitted by johnson on Fri, 2010-01-29 21:09
Hi all
Just went to Floreat Drain this arvo bout 6.30 for a fish. Was there bout an hour and caught bout 4 undersize 25cm tailor which were released back and got one donation from a kind fellow which was 30cm.
Then word was out on the beach that 3 cars in the car park had been broken into. It wasn't even dark yet so might be pros.
Just a heads up to everyone not to leave any valuables in the car and have your alarm on.
They probably targeted Floreat as it was very busy this arvo.
Hope no one gets done over.
Cheers

Just
Just make a fake Cheaters or Rebels leather jacket and drape it over your steering wheel...should keep them away or put a portable stereo in your car playing Rick Asley on repeat..that will scare them off.

floreat
A while ago now we went to Floreat for a fish, and the same thing that night.
A car next to our's (a Magna) had the passenger window smashed.
So here we have had numerous and consistant breakins and damage at these car parks. And what has happened? nothing.

I wonder, why cops don’t
I wonder, why cops don’t have a “lure car”. Full of surveillance cameras and watch it from a distance. They wouldn’t need to wait for long, I recon. But it probably makes to much sense?? I would like to go to Floreat drain, but this puts me off. :(

Marc, I understand your
Marc,
I understand your frustration (and everyone else's for that matter) at the gall of these filthy thieves; however, you should be careful of what you state on the internet regarding knives, etc. If I am not mistaken, you have made overtures before of using weapons against thieves. Be aware that WA laws governing weapons (see here: http://www.austlii.edu.au/au/legis/wa/consol_act/wa1999107/ for the law and penalties and here: http://www.correctiveservices.wa.gov.au/dcsrules/ac_rules/mergedprojects/legislation/Weapons_Regulations_1999/WeaponsRegs1999.pdf for the definitions of what exactly are categorised as prohibited and controlled weapons) are quite serious.
In particular, be aware of section 8 of the Act, which states:
" (1) Except as provided in subsections (3) and (5) and section 10, a person who carries or possesses an article, not being a firearm, a prohibited weapon or a controlled weapon, with the intention of using it, whether or not for defence —
(a) to injure or disable any person; or
(b) to cause any person to fear that someone will be injured or disabled by that use,
commits an offence.
Penalty: imprisonment for 2 years and a fine of $24 000. "
Also note, that if an officer of the law has reasonable suspicion that an object is intended to be used as above, the person with the object must prove they did not have that intention. Needless to say, Marc, if you did use your Buck on someone (whether defending your property or not), and if a police officer stumbles across your statements on this forum, it will be pretty difficult for you to prove you never had the intention to use it in the manner you did.
Also note that the only exception to this, in WA, is in your own dwelling, where a person has special protection in the law in order to defend themselves in their homes. Outside of your dwelling, you are not permitted to carry any weapon (or object reasonably suspected to be intended as a weapon) for self-defence. Whether you like this law or not is immaterial. If you get on the wrong side of it, and I am just talking about carrying the weapon not using it, you can be penalised seriously. As you can see above, 2 years jail is possible.
I advise all those thinking of carrying weapons to think about it seriously; you need to decide whether carrying a weapon for self-defence is worth the possibility of jail time.
David.

I should make a disclaimer
I should make a disclaimer that I am not a practicing lawyer or anything of the sort (I am only a security officer who needed to learn these laws for my employment), so you should not rely upon what I stated as legal advice, etc. Also, I made my statements from a perspective of a citizen, as there are special classes of people who are permitted to carry weapons when qualified and holding the correct permits.
I have, however, posted the actual information so that you can look yourselves. You may be surprised, as I was, in regards to the seriousness of how weapons are classified and the penalties involved.
David.

I haven't fished there for awhile because I have heard
that it has been bad down there.
It is just crap that people like these are making it harder and harder to fish at night in Perth.

Bait Car.com
Likc,
Check out that website....you'll have a good laugh a crims getting busted.
They've had the bait car thing going for years in Canada, it works!!!
There's a whole section devoted to shaming the idiots...there's an on-board camera in each bait car that catches the whole thing!
Cheers,
Joe
PS No idea why they don't do it here already.
