Mate I've fished Sterkfontein Dam in the Free State where there are some good sized carp... methods used included the simple wet bread and soldier trick....

having fished The Vaal in the Transvaal, Seekoie Vlie & even up at Porterville in the West Cape, I can tell you Carp like a well prepared bait.
For me it was alwasy soaked mielies ( Corn to you mob), with some old brown bread and a small tea spoon of cod-liver oil in a bucket.
Some of the older boys had "specials" they woudl produce to add flavour to the bucket as well.
