Fishing Wagoe

Ok lads need a little help!!! :)

Heading to wagoe for this coming long weekend, and the weather reports have just turned horrible!!! Rain NNE-NNW winds around 15knots every day, and swell up around 3m.

Just wondering where else we can fish?? even up to Kalbarri or any other surrounding areas? (not been there before, bit of a recon mission)

I know you can fish the Kalbarri river etc. but anyone got any info would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

You could try lucky bay its south of wagoe you will see the turn off on the way there. There is three spots at wagoe that you fish from the beach also on the south side other wise u can try at the mouth of the creek on the way in to kalbarri you get some good tailor and mullas there at times.

G'day Bodie

Yep things are looking pretty ordinary for this weekend. Kalbarri is only 20ks up the road or Lucky bay is 20ks back the other way. If the swell is up you can still fish the beach areas along Wagoe but be careful. The river up here is fishing well upstream. Good light gear fun. The Canoe and Cray Festival is on Sunday so if its pissing down there is always a bar and some good food. Hope this helps. Let me know if you need anymore info.

Cheers Mick

Thanks Fellas,

Whats the track like into Lucky bay at the moment?
Ive been there once, and from memory the way we went in was over the dunes.

do any of the beaches suit winds from the North? (IE to your back?) I was told there is some rock fishing to the north of wagoe along the beach, any chance in hiding in away from the winds there??

LB are you able to give any info on how to get to the mouth of the creek? or is it pretty self explanitary?

Cheers guys

The track in to Lucky is

Mon, 2009-05-25 10:52

The track in to Lucky is pretty good. You can also drive up the beach from Wagoe to get there. So far as getting out of the northerlies, head south of Lucky along the beach probably about 5k's and you'll come to Shoal Point. the beach cuts right back in and the northerly is at your back. good for tailor, mulla's etc. You could try to ballon there for a mack or tuna. All the cliffs and rock ledges are no go in a northerly. I think LB is talking about the mouth of the Murchison. Bloody big creek

Cheers Mick

Best but not the quickest. The beach can be fairly soft but its a nice drive.  Another spot worth a try with the northerly's is south of port gregory. Turn left heading back to northhampton and there is a track to the right which leads down to the beach. That is fairly protected from the wind.

Cheers Mick

Was talkin about wittacarra creek not the Murch just didnt no how to spell it.also i think the hut river is facing south so would be off shore on a northly wind .I know its a small trip back but does hold good fish at times.

Hut river?? Isnt that

Mon, 2009-05-25 13:34

Hut river?? Isnt that fresh?? dont they get marron in there?

Wittacarra creek sounds good.. need to find that one.

Mainly want to target Tailor, Mullas, and snapper (Altho this could be tough if we cant get onto the rock fishing.

And obviously mackies too, but will be hard without easterlies.

Went out yesterday arvo and stocked up on bait, plenty of gardies, herring and whiting!!

Hey Bodie, i am in the same

Mon, 2009-05-25 15:34

Hey Bodie, i am in the same predicament as you. Am going up to Horrocks Beach Saturday morning till the following Saturday, so i only hope for the weather to turn good later on in the week. Even though i base myself at horrocks i usually go have a crack at Wagoe and the Kalbarri Cliffs. But i think with this weather report i am going to be hanging around the beachs and rocks closer to horrocks. A little more protected. The Bowes River might even get flowing, now that would be good for the Mulloway! Alternatively the Hutt River mouth or just a bit up the beach from there where the Port Gregory Reef meets the shore are great spots to try for mulloway and tailor.

The river is

Mon, 2009-05-25 16:42

The river is fresh water but where it hits the beach is were I'm on about Bodie I have fished it since I was in nappys you will see it on the left on the way if you turn off at Northhampton it curls around and faces back south there is a sign there that says no campin be warned the beach is soft as is Wagoe and Lucky Bay the swell can be a prob at the hut but I use sand sinkers the ones with the wire on them to help them hold in the swell if you fish lucky bay you will see a big main reef if you come back south about 400m at a guess you will be on a corner which they call old half way bay have done well there with fish.Wittacarra creek is on the south of kal and you will see the track in just dont try to drive across it as you will see many have to no sucsess just follow the main track to the beach if you need any more info pm me befor you come drop in i will draw you a map cheers.

Fuel = no problemo, even if there is no fishing, still good to get away for a few days.

We all work int he corporate world, so anyday away from here is a good day.

Just figure if we are going up there, may as well fish regardless of the conditions.

You can still fish the in 3mtr swell.

Wed, 2009-05-27 12:25

We fished in november last year in a 3mtr swell, any bigger and it becomes ridiculos. We found a sandy break in the reef that was big enough for 3 rods. Yeah you will get wet and if you keep your rod high and line tight you will be ok, we caught plenty of fish, we did really well at night also. The pics from that trip are posted on here. If I was you I would be out there giving it go!
