Fishing holiday
Hey everyone,
I have afew questions about a fishing holiday up NW WA this winter. My problem is i have a friend coming for 6 weeks around june and thats when the bulk of the fishing exploring will get done but im not sure where to start as my experience past Carnarvon is limited.
We have a 5m 80hp side console to fish out of that handles light offshore quite easily plus sounders, GPS, gear etc....Want to get the most out of the 6 weeks as possible but want to settle on 2 or 3 locations to visit as we know the trap of moving to quick and never really getting a feel for a place.
Not sure whether to start in Carnarvon and head through Coral bay, exmouth etc, and maybe into broome and the Kimberely. Exmouth is a must but does the Kimberely have alot to offer as well? It is quite far up too, would probably be there in june.
We definately prefer big fish in the light offshore category as oppossed to creeks etc. So if u guys had 6 weeks around june where would u start?

I am heading back up Norwest again with the Family again Mid May for around 10 weeks or so . Have been doing the Coral Bay thing for 3 years . Was supposed to get there again last year but got stuck in Carnarvon for 5 months instead. All in all I love Coral Bay and Exxie but Pelican Point in Carnarvon is great! Its pretty isolated from tourists, and its only 10 minutes to town. Boats in the Canal about 10 metres from your doorstep too! The only down side it is a long way to the Islands too fish (28nm), but there still is good fishing ground closer than that.That time of the year the weather is good. cheers!

Broome weather in June is
Broome weather in June is usually easterlies in the morning then flat calm from about 11.00am so it enables you to fish cable beach side in close in the morning bottom bouncing or chasing pelagics then head down towards barred creek and try for a sailfish or marlin. that time of year they can be as close as 1km from shore

If you can get a site at the CVP in Point sampson it would be perfect. So would dampier but the cost at the CVPs are astronomical.

Thanks for the info guys, it all sounds great. I guess i am wondering is it worth going as far up as broome when u only have 6 weeks? Or is it so good up there that you really want to get there? With carnarvon, coral bay, exmouth, karatha( dampier, pt samson etc..) plus more available to explore would u go that far?
Also, how much are the CVP's in pt samson and Dampier? are they all astronomical? We prob be camping alot too, and what sort of fishing is on offer There?

if you go to the trouble of getting to Broome you should head up to Cape Leveque- it has all the options you are after. There will be plenty tourists but most will be in car topper tinnies so you should have the further out reefs to yourself.

Canarvon, Coral bay and
Canarvon, Coral bay and Exmouth three great spots with plenty of fish ,big and small and your not spending days driving to the next spot .Two weeks in each would be a great holiday.

Point Samson
Point Samson would be an ideal base the cove caravan park is great.You have heaps of options -Islands close by and the creeks if you want a feed of Muddys.

Depends on if you just like fishing, there is quite a bit along the ningaloo reef between coral bay and exmouth the diving is superb, the whales should be out wide and make quite a spectical having whales breaching while your fighting a large fish. there are plenty of manta rays around in the bay of exmouth and in and around mauds landing near coral bay to name a few. There always turtles that can be seen quite clearly from the rocks south of coral bay too all day round
The are plenty of spots along the west coast in the national park, osprey bay has a lovely camping site although not powered but has a lovely small rock section to sit on and catch plenty of fish and watch the wildlife swim along from shore. not to mention some of the best shore diving along the coast like turquoise bay and other small bays along there.
If you really spend some time looking at these areas there is more stuff here that would quite easily take up six weeks by itself.
cant wait for my next little one to be born in june so hopefully we can make it back to coral bay next year. We are spoilt by the beauty of the ningaloo reef.
