Caught this off Bunbury yesterday and wasnt sure what it was. Looked tasty but put it back anyway.

yeah pretty sure thats a wirrah. caught a few before, they actually put up a good fight for their size.

What do you guys use for fish id books or apps and whats best. Recfish west app seems to only have popular species

Comes up in the RFW app straight away:
oval body/truncate tail/spots-stripes:Wirrah, all species
terrible eating, but a bag limit of 2, go figure
The fish id on this site is as good as any. Also has glen from the museum to help with curly ones.

Sea fishes of wa had one but misplaced it when moving house .
Other than that as mentioned on here is usualy spot on and quick
RUSS and SANDY. A family that fishes together stays together
