If I spent half as long fishing , as I do reading this bloody forum , I'd be twice the fisherman I am.

Awesome photos, and a good variety. Did you end up eating any of the Maori perch? They are supposed to be pretty good.

Even better to see someone else realises how good those Richter pkugs are, good onya John. Best GT lure out there and will outcast anything.
ps. not sure if you at the maouri but I speared one once and the flesh was mint.

Yeah Tim, the richter plug
Yeah Tim, the richter plug was based on your advice. It got me my biggest GT for the trip, nice bluefin trevelly, longest cast, and non stop piss taking from Daz and Sam.
The trip was truly special, the 3 of us had a ball, we never had a blue and fished from dawn till dusk every day with a smile on our dial.
Popping was seriously hard work, you had to put the effort in, that's for sure, sometimes 100 casts between hits, but man, were you rewarded for your efforts. Daz was the master here, but me and Sam did our bit. Stickbaits were preferred mainly due to the exhaustion of working poppers but also there was a reasonable amount of chop most days.
Heavy jigging was slow at best. No dogtooth, although we tried. Once we converted to PE3, again through bodily necessity, and worked some structure, we started having fun and catching fish. The odd unstoppable. The Fijian boys on the boat started to work out what was required for light jigging by the end of the week and they started putting us on fish both inside and outside the atol.
Only had one short 2 hr troll session to rest the weary bodies, rewarded with 3 YFT, a dollie and some stripies.
Numerous memorable moments.......my favorite 3:
1. Getting the local deckies dad Wungu to take us out in his local banana boat each evening after we finished fishing on the main boat. Wungu was a legend, surprising how the lure of a $50 tip for catching fish will result in being taken to the favorite local spots. All fish donated to the local guys.
2. Evening kyack sess.....what a laugh. Sam trolled at about 8 knots, what a machine. His trolled stickbait got bricked by something smarter than him...Me and Daz flopped about hopelessly in a tandem, laughing like girls, but we got a squid and trout on stickbait. Yeeeeewwww.
3. After checking our bags in at yhe airport when the flight home was late, we got our light jig gear back from the baggage handlers, and jumped back on our hat before the boys headed back to ONO, and had the sneakiest jig session ever. The baggage handlers were so amused they jumped on the boat as well and came fishing. We cleaned up!
Daz and Sam, what can I say. It was a pleasure.
Boston Whaler 235 Conquest......getting the flogging it was built for.

Yeah I had to put up with
Yeah I had to put up with Brad and Glenn sniggering like school girls when I was using the Richter. They're so easy to use, work just as well and can chuck them further and into more places than you'd dare with a $100 note tied to the end of your line.
Agree on the trip highlights, most of mine don't involve fishing on the main boat, all that other stuff is what makes the place special.

Looks like an amazing trip guys!
Awesome pics.
When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:
n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or
n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.

Thanks for your comments
Thanks for your comments guys, was a good trip indeed.
Timbo, i was waiting for your smart ass comment on the plugs haha. But to the plugs's credit it gave Johnboy a world of pain on day one! Priceless.
Yup, the light jigging was a sure highlight. Its a lucky dip and everything tares line!
Pete, thats a Trumpetfish. I suppose thats the Fijian term for our Flutefish. Ugly, Slimey and Long bugger...
Nah didn't neck the Maori Sea Perch, no chance in hell i could bring myself to killing one of them. Beautiful creatures...
Thanks again Ladies and Gents.
Next trip is CI for Daz and I (John won't need much convincing on this one)
Cheers,
Sam

Man what a trip
And mixture off fish. Boys could you eat some of the fish, or was ciquetera a risk. Some of the fish over here would be a delight on the plate, not sure what its like over there.

90% of all meals was fish,
90% of all meals was fish, all of which was caught by us except the first day, which was some frozen YFT from the group before.
We still released over 90% of fish caught.....nice to think we did not have a significant effect on the local fish stocks.
Main fish we ate were coral trout and YFT ....deliceous. Trout is apparenlty a bit of a cig threat, but we only ate small and medium size ones. Red Bass were a no no.......they looked deliceous, but all went back.
Boston Whaler 235 Conquest......getting the flogging it was built for.
