Feeling Crabby
Submitted by Helen on Tue, 2018-01-16 22:21
Hey peeps. I’m back after quite a few years... Woops time just slipped me by. I haven’t done much fishing over the last few years but need to get back into it ASAP. Just seeking a bit of advice. Does anyone know any good spots to take the nieces and nephews crabbing? We have always gone to the jetty a bit of a drive around the river close to the raffles but lately we haven’t caught anything. There are less people this year as well. Does anyone know anything that I don’t? Thanks :)

Yep just in time for my holiday to Mandurah. Best to get a strong torch and a scoop and scoop them on the surface from the foreshore bridge (If you still can) as they swim out. I've seen this done after a huge rain and the old boys were bagging out in 30 mins max. Went back prepared the next night and they'd already gone so timing is the keys.
Officially off the Pies bandwagon

Be quick at Mandurah
Sorry to say but, with all the rain we have had the crabs are not going to hang around for much longer, the cold fresh water will, flush them out to sea reasonably quickly IMO

Hey Helen
Long time no see fishing!
As others have said, pretty darn quiet year on the crabs front (particularly for the Swan river)
me and a few mates went for a swim the other night and could barely see any. All up we spotted just 2 crabs between 3 blokes. I reckon the massive rains and floods from this time last year flushed them out to sea and the numbers have not returned for this summer as strongly as what they did in the past.
