The new epirbs are registed to the boat, if you set it off they won't come looking for your boat but the persons boat that has it regiested.

yea you just go online and switch it for the day. Spoke with the fisheries guy and he said that was how you do it.

...of which boat it's registered to, all the epirb owner's details are tied in to the signal and the first thing AMSA will do is ring whatever contact number is associated with the epirb, when and if the distress signal is activated. Of course, you may be out of phone range but the whole idea is to reduce the number of times rescue personnel are sent out on false alarms.
