seems like a well
seems like a well constructed plan. They tagged the shark, monitored its behaviour and determined it to be a real threat. I think that's good management and likely to result in a successful capture. Far better than what occurred last year.

How can you be sure it was going to bite someone? This is my opinion, I'm allowed to have one last time I checked.

I agree swompa, all the greenys believe that we all won't to wipe them out, but that's not the case I believe that they have gone about this decision very well.

My opinion (which I'm entitled to) leave the bloody thing alone, It hasn't done anything. It's entitled to live and hunt, same as we all do when we fish and shoot.

I didn't see anyone saying you weren't entitled to your opinion mate, I'm surprised your a fisherman or a hunter, you kill fish regularly but not a shark lol, what do you eat for dinner mate, everything is living, everything is in it's Enviroment when killed or sent to be killed, but that's ok, so wat gives us the right to take any things life in this world? And how is a shark any different?

My point is someone puts up
My point is someone puts up an opposing view and gets chewed out. To answer your question I catch and kill fish for a purpose (to eat) not kill a shark just because I'm scared it 'might' bite me. That's just stupidity and born out of fear. This reaction that is going on right now is just a political point scoring exercise, nothing more. The shark hasn't menaced anyone.

Belief
I was brought up with the belief that if you shoot or kill something it has to be for a reason, either you are going to eat it or someone else is going to, not just for sport or to dump it out to sea because it happens to swim around in an area for a few days.
Its life is just as precious to it as your life is to you. It hasn't done anyone any harm and probably isn't going to yet those who know fuck all think they are God and Lord and Master over all the live and have the power to kill everything in sight. The reason for the tracking device is to show its location so the population can be warned of its presence and it has done its job not to pinpoint where to drop baits to kill it.

I reckon leave it alone, it's always a risk going for a swim (usually tiny) but the chance of someone getting taken by an "unseen" shark is much greater than the chance of someone getting taken by the tagged shark which is apparently monitored closely I reckon

Good to see they have given
Good to see they have given it a chance but It's obviously a problem so drum line the shit out of it! If the greeny want to stage a protes why don't they go and swim a lap of the sound?? Any takers.... Didnt think so!
Any one free to help me pull my drum lines tomorrow?

If they stay off shore their not to bad in the current numbers, but as the larger models are protected, then we all know what the numbers will look like in another 5 years.....

White shark
The fisheries reckon it is showing predatory behaviour in the way it is hunting along the beaches. With all the divers that will be in the water getting a feed of crays for Christmas, it's not too bad of an idea to catch the bastard.

shark in sound
it's' probably been going there for years during snapper spawning.
Shortly it wll probably leave.
It has a tag in it.
Everyone knows it's' there.
So ... kill it (?)
I would rather see it alive and being studied.
And ... 'displaying predatory behaviour' (?) wtf ? it's'a shark.
To me that's' a sign that politics is interfering with science.

leave the bloody sharks alone...it is their environment / ecosystem. and they have well and truly earned their right to be at the top of the food chain.we are only visitors to their world and need to respect them and be cautious of our actions in and on the water.

Shaman,The number of sharks
Shaman,
The number of sharks have been going up every year, over time the numbers will get to the point were you will be loosing fish to the sharks like you do up north.
I have mates that work on pro boats, one cray boat has upto 20 sharks following the boat as they pull and reset pots.
I dive, I know the risks, Do you dive, go for a morning swim, take the kid or grand kid down to the beach?

their numbers have been going up for ages? Who caused their decline in the first place? I would say theit numbers are just returning to where nature intended them to be. :)

I wonder if it is
the same monster that ended Brian's life while he was going about a shallow water crab dive. How they let that maneater go is beyond believe. It could of easily taken someones child that day.
There was and mabye still is a small barge in Warnbro sound about 50m odd off the shore in 2.5m of water..it always attracts kids on any warm day for some fun clowning around jumping in and out of the water.
How would you feel if one of them got torn apart by a predator hunting the shallows. We should not have to stop doing what we always do because a GWS is hunting in close looking for anything to eat including us.
We are not seals we are humans and any normal thinking person would not tolerate a shark acting in this manner.
Thank you Barney.

try the north west
not like it was 30 years ago where you might see 1 shark a day, now in the north west as soon as you
start shooting fish the reefys are in on you in minutes and 10 minutes later mister tiger will turn up and they scare me more than GWS as i have had a tiger charge me any one that says they are not a dangerous shark has obviously has never dived in the north west

GWS are predators of the ocean
which are at the top of the food chain that can decimate spawning snapper and anything that comes within range needs to be culled ,spare a thought for the people taken and the rest of the fish species ,classic example of greenies living in their own bubble .

No, we are the top of the food chain, not sure what the problem is. It is a fish, no one seems to have any issues with killing a fish on any of the other posts on this forum?

i said it last year on this forum humans are top of the food chain and we will decide what lives or dies , and if that happens to be a GWS so be it

Actually...
...white sharks "decimate" far fewer snapper than what sea lions do. So what decimates sea lions? Or even begins to put a dent in them? Even all the half-assed "marine biologists" on here should be able to figure that one out.
If you're gonna bring the food chain into the discussion, bring in the ENTIRE food chain...
And to the comment before it...no we are NOT seals; the primary difference being seals go into the ocean for survival, we go in for fun.

...they go where the food is. You'd have to relocate the food as well!

What about the ones that
What about the ones that aren't tagged?
If they show the footage on the news of a tagged white shark dead on a drum line, will everyone feel safe then?
It would just be one less fish to bite someone.
Do divers need to think harder about using a personal cage like the abalone divers if they want to feel safe?
And yes, I realise that 3 of the 4 sentences above are questions, which to me means there is no easy solution.

shark patrols on the beaches have started
"If they show the footage on the news of a tagged white shark dead on a drum line, will everyone feel safe then?"
If its the one at Warnbro, then hell yes if I was swimming or diving in that area
"It would just be one less fish to bite someone."
No... It would be one less GWS.....
"Do divers need to think harder about using a personal cage like the abalone divers if they want to feel safe?"
Have you ever tried one of these on tanks? we dont all dive on hookers .

We all accept a level of risk in regards to sharks when we go into the water, but the risk is going up with each passing year

Wow.
People are out there "diving on hookers"? I suppose if a shark eats someone that has dived on a hooker the toxicity would kill the shark...kind of like when a crocodile eats a cane toad!

Wal, you're entitled to your opinion and your thoughts that you should be free to roam the african plains in a gazelle suit without attracting the lions. I just don't know that you'll get everyone to agree with you.
And no, I don't want anyone to get eaten by a shark.
P.S. Don't go diving on the hookers - you'll get a mouthful of crabs

WARNBRO SOUND SHARK
@ walfootrot...g'day mate...yes i know shark populations have been increasing since they have been protected.that was the idea behind the protection order.i still don't think we need to kill these alpha predators as this will mess up the ecosystem that sharks keep in balance.yes i was a scuba diver until an accident in 1992...now just skin dive / snorkel and also swim in the ocean. i also know the risk and always respect the ocean and its creatures.all the best...cheers Rabbit.

GDay Rabbit
Sorry to hear you cant blow bubbles anymore.
I do understand the reasons behind the protection of the sharks and their rolls in the ecosystem.
We are talking about 1 shark being taken, not 2 or more.
If there is such an out cry about taking 1 life, the life of the said shark and the impact it will have on the ecosystem, then we all better stop fishing.

Perspective
I think people have too much thought into the life of a shark, being that it's life is somehow worth more than any other creature or human. I would consider myself mostly as a conservationist (only taking what I need), but even with conservation certain measures need to be taken to maintain a right and safe balance for the environment and people. I'm sure no one would think twice about killing a spider with a can of spray, so saving a couple of possibly dangerous sharks would be contradictory to that thought Imo.
