"Dodgy seafood" report by Minderoo

Interesting report funded by Minderoo, has some great headline grabbing phrases.

Undoubtedly there is a problem with labelling but I'd have thought the mislabelling of basa and Nile Perch in fish and chip shops would be the major one, but does not even get a mention

"In one instance, we found flake served as battered fish and chips was actually school shark, which is classified as critically endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature red list of threatened species."

I'd have thought that in Australia "flake" is well accepted to be any kind of shark, and as far as I know school shark is not endangered in WA or Australia?

I never intentionally go to Perth Now articles for a reason. Its the same reason I dont go to News.com or The West.

That article is writing about food being labllled as shark actually being shark, or species related to shark.

I have little respect for anything related to Minderoo. They have an agenda that distracts from what Twiggy is doing on land.

I agree with you mate. I don't know that many people have much respect for what Twiggy is doing. Pushes a green agenda but is full of crap. We were staying at Narrowneck last summer and kept seeing this black chopper disappear behind the isalnd and then reappear later on. Turns out it was Twiggy's boat and he was just back and forth to Perth all the time. Doesn't like staying on the boat apparently. Maybe because his wife was on it?

So they're basically telling us what we already know, fish being substituted for shit fish at restaurants etc. Been going on since the dawn of time, it's why I never order fish eating out. Only at our local fish and chip shop. My misso only ever has shark and I know exactly what that loooks and tastes like. Catch my own anyway..... when I can lol

 well, no not really.

They seem to be ignoring that part and transposing whats endangered internationally as endangered here.

I know exactly what Minderoo do, and it's not making sure we aren't eating Basa substituted as snapper.

They'd like to slow/stop rec and commercial fishing full stop. I had a quick look at the two Minderoo employees mentioned on, on LinkedIn.

Wondering if Id see any connection to stories published by PEW etc, but didnt.

I'd hazard a guess that they are smarter than support them publicly

I listened to the girl from that organisation on the radio this morning Rob and that's exactly what she said,  that around 10-15% of fish at restaurants  had been substituted as well as imported fish.

I have no doubt they have an agenda in this or they wouldn't be spruiking their supposed research

right, didnt hear that, at sea.

The result of the Rockingham byelection gives me a small amount of hope that Labor will realise its time to tone it all back a little as the crushing majority wont last forever.

Just 3 or 4 months ago it seemed hopeless that the next election would yield anything, now it seems the Heritage Act may at least do something.

Hopefully breakaway and rogue activists continue to keep that issue in the headlines for a while longer

The whole ACH issue is a debacle Rob. I know people who have made applications and the organisation responsible for assessing these doesn't even exist yet! It is a clusterfuck of the highest order. Labor at both a state and federal level seem to think they can get away with whatever they want because of weak opposition. That wont last long if they keep doing what they are.

Dave, yes that is the one thing that has given me some hope, that this gov may start to feel threatened a full election cycle earlier than I thought 3 months ago.

Tue, 2023-08-08 21:55

 Heritage act scrapped...

Well done to the farming lobby groups that fought tooth n nail for this outcome....

Miners were piss weak and gave no support....

Hopefully as mentioed above, labour smarten up and realise that what they think might be easy vote grabbing actually is detremental to their position, hopefully they start backing off their left as fuck wing agenda...

The way they have gone about

Wed, 2023-08-09 05:42

The way they have gone about marine parks in the Kimberley and soon to be south coast and west coast fishery, gives you an idea of how they do things due to their majority. Total disregard for the voter that put them in there. LIB/NAT get a few good people in labour will be in trouble next election.

I'm about to build on 2000 m2 block in Bridgetown ,would have been interesting to see what I would have had to go through due to it being larger that 1500m2.
