Had a dive on the shallow water on top of the three mile .8-10M Water was not as clear as I would have thought ,around 10m viz .A few crays in the holes but no numbers yet.The fish life was a little slow with only the usual wrasse and skippy buzzing around .I had the shark sheild on ,I drilled the holes through the fin worked a treat grabed hold of the thing a few times yep gives you a tickle.but nothing to worry about .I did feel very comfortable watching thew other two dives swimming around knowing i had the sheild .Peace of mind .Jesse had trouble with his ears and had to sit this one out on the boat .Can't wait toget back out there maybe after work this week.

Does anyone who uses a shark
Does anyone who uses a shark sheild regularly find that the electrical field also puts the crays off ( ie. they can also sense the field?) making them aware of you and pushing them back deeper into there holes?

Hey Paul, dived Rotto today,
Hey Paul, dived Rotto today, fair numbers of good size crays, all reds. Also saw half decent baldies inside thompson bay and had a approx 9kg dhu swum right up to me - obviously they all got the memo... oh and a big fat friendly bronzie trying to escape your shark shield.

I had some crays under a ledge today, didn't seem to be affected by the sheild .they just sat there .Will try putting the tail under the ledge next time and let you know.
Sound like a good day out at Rotto .Never seen a shark in the water yet im sure at times they have seen me but kept there distance.

Sound like it is becoming a must have. If only for that Peace of mind. Thinking about it now, I wonder if your bottom time is increased due to you being more relaxed? I think it might be time for me to get back in the water soon. Cheers
I live with fear every day... sometimes she lets me go fishing.

Not so much a must have but
Not so much a must have but if things went bad and the unthinkable happened then we would not be wondering for the rest of our lives thinking maybe if we had a shark sheild .I think being awear and on guard all the time is a must .Never get to comfortable as things happen fast .Allways know where your buddy is and stick together no matter what .

Paul have you just got the
Paul have you just got the one or does Jessie have one also? I often wonder if the shield will bring them in and then who ever doesn't have one could be in trouble. I have a mate who was thinking of getting one for surfing and i said i wouldn't surf with him if he did..

The idea is that the
The idea is that the electrical signals it puts out are not like other things in the ocean, and therefore shouldnt 'interest' them. Doesnt mimic the signals of fish/other marine life, etc. Not sure exactly whether that is 100% true, or whether they just claim it.
Crays not having ampullae of lorenzini shouldnt be affected. That the little sensor tubes the sharks have for picking up weak electrical signals. You can see them as the dots on the nose of the shark here.
I'll admit to sometimes feeling a little spooky sitting midwater in crap visibility sometimes, but when i'm on the bottom chasing crays, I just dont even think of sharks at all. So for me at least, having a sharkshield wouldnt change my bottom times. Even then, you're just thinking about it, not getting panicky and heart racing. May be a little different if you saw one though! But then, it would still raise your heartrate even if you had a shark shield.

I got two one each as Jesse
I got two one each as Jesse can be 10m or more from me at times. The booklet says they do not attract them . would like one more to hang from the back of the boat when we are in the water.

They are tested
Pretty throughly and the armed forces use them so i doubt if they attracted them they would be using them..What sold me on them was spear fishers in the eastern states who have regular shark encounters swear by them and if they work in bloody chumed water with dead fish hanging off a float thats good enough for me... Wether they work 100% of the time is up for debate but for 600 bucks some protection is better than none..
