Currents imagery

a while ago i saw some pictures floating around with the currents and water temps etc on it around the south west. like a radar photo.

Wondering if anyone knows where to find the latest ones??
would be interesting to see what the Lewin current is doing at the moment.

Cheers

only thing Ive found so far

Meant to be from the 30th-3-09

http://www.bom.gov.au/oceanography/forecasts/idyoc10.shtml?region=10&forecast=1

Still shows water temps p between albany and Perth.

Cant really point out the lewin current, but is that the red line running down the coast from Gero to around the capes?

I seem to remember seeing slightly different graphs before (a bit more zoomed in) but I thought they were posted from a site you need to subscribe to. Does anyone know which one I mean?

Flowing south

Thu, 2009-04-02 13:49

http://www.marine.csiro.au/remotesensing/oceancurrents/

Then click on area of Australia.

Looks like the current is still pushing down past Augusta, hence limited salmon.

Cheers Pete

Maybe there could be money to be made towing some icebergs to the south west of WA (LOl).

Thats the one I was thinking

Thats the one I was thinking of Ryan. Would be interesting to see the 2008 one for comparison

(do warmer temps mean a better mackie or perhaps billfish season?)

Water Temp info & 2008 Temp Comparison!

Thu, 2009-04-02 16:16

Here's an End of March 2008 Comparison Matt!

The South Coast is cooler and so is Geographe bay so hense why last year was still better than this year so far but the cooler waters of 2007 made it a big salmon run.

There still is a Leuwin push on the outer of the 2007 & 2008 BUT the Capes Current which runs between Capes Leeuwin and Naturaliste also flows northwards during October to March which also brings up the cooler more stable waters close in!~

Yes Matt, a better macky/pelagic run and thats been evident already!

Yeh Bodie, that greenish current is the Leuwin push!
