Crabs

Have heard of a few big blue's been taken from the swan in the last couple weeks, but the blokes have been putting in hard yards to get them.

Just wondering if anyone tried Wanbro sound, or outside the Cockburn sound closure boundries???

Pretty sure these are not closed this time of year yeah?
Have heard of some bigger males coming from wanbro way over the last couple weeks too.

Cheers

Bodie

closures

I think warnbro is closed in conjunction with cockburn.  I think if you are north of an imaginary line from the tip of woodman point to the northern end of Carnac you are ok.

We went in the river last night, got two good size crabs, saw 12 mainly juveniles and females in berry in about 2 1/2 hours.

find that a bit hard to beleive. i'm one of the ones thats being doing the hard yards over the last few weeks trying to find them, and whilst i actually have caught crabs (2 legal), they just either arent there, or just plying hard to get.

this has been the story for the last 5 weeks, and whilst i actually know that its far too early for them yet (late january / early february is when its worth the trip), i have been trying anyway, before the crowds start to piss me, and everyone else off, and there is people puttin pots on top of mine.

Crabs are happening outside the boundaries atm and all allowed. Some good catches and full of meat!

The Swan is slow but good size crabs that are caught, deeper water being better and roll on December!

PM sent!

spots

Mon, 2009-11-02 12:29

Scotto, Id be keen to know where you have been, PM me and I will tell you where we were, cause NO-ONE else had pots where we were and normally its pretty busy.  I think it is still early in the season also, and there is a clue in that as to were they may be.

Anyway if you are struggling to get them in pots then the only way to find em is go looking by diving.

I have been crabbing pretty successfully on the river for the last 3 years, and after the cockburn sound closure last year felt that the river copped an absolute hiding.  Driving over canning bridge and seeing nearly 150 pots on the left and right side, rocking up to boat ramps at 6am to see every car/trailer bay filled.

I hope that the opening of Cockburn/warnbro/manurah alleiviates some of the pressure on the river this year. I have photos from last night but for some reason my work pc is stopping me uploading them.

yep looked on the fisheries website and Wanbro sound is not closed.

Think most people get it confused with the Snapper closures.

yup, tried a heap of spots in the river for bugger all, unless you want to dive for them they are pretty scarce. wouldnt suprise me if there are any crabs in the river this year after karl langdon and thommo spilled the guts to the world last year.

Has the last swan commercial

Has the last swan commercial license been removed now?  Perhaps this could be a good year and the years to come.
