Startin to pi$$ me off all this bullshit about the government saying " you can only fish here and you can only catch this". I only got out once and got a feed of crab. Having a open season for them entices people to rape and pilage while they can. gives me the shits!!!! JMO

The big winners

were the pro's . Raped and pilaged all the way to the bank. While we bums battled along with a handful of pissie drop pots. Gives me the shits to Rodrat.

pretty bold comment

out wide, considering there is only four pros fishing the sound each with 80 pots, have not been aloud to fish for three years, and now still can only fish for five months of the year, i doubt any of the pros would of broke even.

Crab ban advertising

Sat, 2010-04-03 17:55

My brother went for a dive on Friday morn and got stopped by fisheries and handed a $400 fine. He is a very honest bloke and definetly would not have gone if he had known the ban was on. He asked me if I knew about the reintroduction, and after a minute of laughing and accussing him of being a poacher, I admitted I heard or read nothing. Does anyone know if it was advertised, and if so, where??

Good to hear mussels

By the way we haven't been out there for three years and can only crab for 5 months or so.

The problem I have is there unfair advantage with the big set pots soaking 24 hours a day 7 days a week and 80 each. How many thousands of crab do they take ?

I like a lot of others caught very little and didn't even break even unlike the pros who did. I lost plenty of money trying with my pissie little 10 drop pots loaded with everything bar the kitchen sink.

no advantage

dont get me wrong i am not defending the pros, but i come from both sides of the fence and get pissed when the pros who try and make a living are bagged by people. you say 80 pots soaking for 24  hours true, times four fisherman 320 pots. the normal joe blow crabbing 20 pots per boat i think, times that by at least 50 boats trying to catch crabs plus the 500 divers in the first month taking there quota, soon adds up to more than what a pro is taking. these pros have out layed around $600,000 for boat and license, plus all ongoing costs even when not aloud to fish. thats like saying you can have the house you paid for, but have to move out for seven months a year and find else where to live at your cost, i am sure no one would be happy with that.

Yes but what gives me the tom tits

is the crabs didn't come down in price either still $14.99 a kg...

Mussels its 10 pots per amatuer boat, but you can still crab outside of Cockburn Sound.

I don't think any pro lost money as they got other jobs, I know one that worked at Austal shipping as he was a boat builder.

no return

on an investment, for three years is a loss in my eyes, prices dont come down because it is supply and demand just like crays and any other seafood.anyway people that make a living off the sea have as much of right as any other person, just because they work on the ocean to make a living should not be crucified, it wont be long and you will walk into a kalis and sealanes and origin of fish wont read western australia or australia

rate them Swan crabs the very best but I won't go near them anymore. That river is full of all sorts of shit and the crabs live within it. Dont believe out health dept for one minute they are full of the same stuff just ask the people of Esperance.
