crabbing

hey guys,
my gfs father was keen on taking me for my first crabbing session later this year or early next year. the only problem is that he hasnt gone out crabbing for a couple of years and was wanting to know where to head these days.
he previously headed to mandurah, with the talk about extended bans etc i was wondering where the best spots should be in mandurah and also are there other places similar distance from perth that you can find them that would be good for a beginner.
ive never done this before so ill take any information you can throw at me.

Jay in dec/jan you put some drop nets in anywhere in the peel estuary you will find crabs. Look for were other people have all there nets as..that is probly were the action is. I use spleen for bait. Put your bait in a bait cage, so it dosnt get eaten by all the blowfish, before the crabs arrive!

cockburn sound
have heard a whisper cockburn will be opened to crabbing 15th december, if the case you will have no problems getting a feed.

get yourself some flippers, snorkel, mask and a pair of welders gloves.

crabs
the crabs are pretty wide spread from mangles bay to woodys point. if you are keen for a swim they are abundant on the southern flats early morning or late arvo, otherwise crab nets in the deep water will do the trick. with what i have seen the crabs are well and truly back

5 pros=500 pots, average
5 pros=500 pots, average catch rate of 120kg per day each over a 10 month season, thats allot of crabs! At the peak of the season it's not unusual for a pro to catch over 250kg per day, so how long before they clean Cockburn Sound out again?
