Cosack tomorrow

We checked the tides and decided to head to Cosack in the morning. Its an early start (6.00am) but to catch the low you have to sacrifice something. I'm not going to hold my breath because it has been a bit cold up here but I will tell you how we went tomorrow. Should at least get some crabs and a few beers (i've already caught the beers). Bloody westerlies won't stop.

got about 15 crabs 2 weeks
got about 15 crabs 2 weeks ago at cossack, and dropped 2 barra... :(
Looked like plenty of threadfin around aswell.

We left home at 0630 and got
We left home at 0630 and got up to cossack at 0800 after picking up my mate in Karratha. The tide was already well down so we had to get moving to try and get up the creek while there was still some water. The main channel was already down to 3ft and it was hard going.
We got into the creek mouth and the water was running out very quickly. I kept pushing through slowly but it wasnt looking promising. Next thing that all to familliar mud cloud out the back and we weren't going any more. Bugger, it was only another 50 meters to the open water but it wasn't going to happen. After a few quiet words the decission was made to stay put and walk the bank flicking lures. We did this for about an hour and a half and there wasn't even as much as a sniff. The water was dead. There was no movement at all just a few small splashes from bait fish but that was it.
The tide finally came in and we had enough water to get moving so we went out and started to troll for a while. Gave up on that after an hour and started chucking the drop nets in. We managed four good size muddies then headed home. Not the most productive day but still good fun with good mates. Next time !

Just get those lamb offcuts
Just get those lamb offcuts in the cold petfood section at woolies. I also got told to try chicken frames but I never got a crab in the pots that had them in. Mind you we didnt crab for long. I reckon the lamb is the best because it has heaps of fat and is about seven bucks for a big bag.

we used lamb necks first day... worked better
Used chieken necks and chicken frames the 2nd day didnt work so well...but did still get crabs. Quite a few were hit by small sharks i would say.

Black and gold cat food with holes in them.
Puts out a good scent but nothing can steal them.
We used to save up any fish frames also and have them prepacked in the baitmesh sitting in the esky to wire up on later pulls

neander you sound like you
neander you sound like you are a bit more organised than me. I've been told that cat food is good though. In Queensland we had a guy from a piggery who used to sell us pigs heads for SFA. I used to put the axe through them and you could get four pots per head. Messy job :)
