Con or Not???
Hi All I'm selling my Santa Fe on Gumtree and received the email below is it a con or real?
Hello,
Thanks for the swift reply, What is your asking price and i want you
to get back to me with more pictures because i am not available at the
moment, i am in Malaysia and i will be using the car here in Malaysia.
I will be handling the pick up of this merchandise through a
legitimate shipping agent that has their headquarter situated in
Malaysia . Please note that i will not be needing the vehicle
registration because it will be invalid over here so please remove the
registration. The car will be picked up after you receive the full
payment, so i really need to know the mode of payment because i need
this car urgently. Hope to read from you asap.
Kelly.

there was a scam going around with boats and they done the same thing put the money in your account then when they took the car/boat the money dissapears! that was using paypal though!! and arent the cars in malaysia cheaper than ours anyway??? so why would they want to import a car when i think they are cheaper over there!! BE VERY VERY CAREFULL!

Fake!
Hi Kelly
Yeah I have seen a heap of these fake things go through. Especially on Motor Bikes and Cars. Simply because of the cost of these items and they can offer to pay for shipping (which would be costly)
Basically when you respond they will ask for your bank details and that they cannot use Paypal. After they have your details they ask for you to give them a small fee to cover the excess shipping (or something to the like of this) Once you have given them the $200, $300 etc you never hear from them again.
If you are curious just write back asking more details but do not EVER give them ANY personal details, name, address, bank accounts etc.
Also google "Paypal car scam" or "Gumtree car scam" and read a little up on that to see if it is similar to your situation.
Good Luck!
Cheers

Yes its a scam, it can work
Yes its a scam, it can work different ways but i would say that you say its $5000 he will put $7000 in and then he will say oopps i over paid you can you send the difference back ASAP, the bank says the moneys there so you do,,but the money has not cleared your the bank yet and in the end it does not and you lose $2000 or whatever,,
Overpayment scams are the biggest ones going at the moment, he is not interested in your car at all tho they pretend there are,,

Surely once you receive
Surely once you receive money through paypal or whatever, and it is in your account they cannot then take it out.
I wouldn't be giving them any banking details though. Get the money through Pay Pal, withdraw the funds and away you go. They have to sign the rego transfer papers anyway, and what they do with the plates is up to them.

like snappermiles said there
like snappermiles said there was a scam around involving cars, with over seas purchasers claiming to put money into an account. I would be very careful about giving any account details over the net. One way of weeding out cons is ask for cash on pick up! If they come back with some bullshit story then theres your answer!
All this working keeps getting in the way of fishing!

Oh i just remember they are
Oh i just remember they are smarter than that,,some do go thru paypal,,they have the logo and everything that looks legit that they send to your email account which says payment has been confirmed etc so you say great and send back the "overpayment"or you send the goods out,,,
So remember just because paypal says tthe moneys been recieved does not mean anything, the crooks are getting smarter,,
I like how Kelly says he needs the car urgently, yeah right i need a car so i will import one from Australia this week, lmao
