jeez it makes me laugh. norman moore brings in all these restrictions, reduced limits, reduced quotas/number of days that pros can fish, larger escape gaps, etc, all in a bid to reduce the amount of crays are taken during a season.
if 60% of the pro catch gets exported to china, and then china ban importing our crays, wouldnt that take a bit of pressure (at least 60%?) off the crays and/or restrictions?
no. he goes into urgent talks with china, to get them back onto their import list asap. the crays suffer for another year, and numbers potentially drop again next year. average joe goes back to paying $45+ for last seasons crays at sealanes.
whats the point of fishing for the future, when the powers to be dont give a flying fork.
They're only fishing for the future so they can continue raking in cash for the future.
The goal is take as much as you can without it collapsing and get as much cash as you can for that take. Not really a surprising move to go into talks with China.
Son was on the phone to one of his mates who works on one of the boats out of Two Rocks on Thursday when they heard. Beach price dropped from $53 to $30 so they puulled pots out and brought them in untill price goes back up.
Ok for the skippers but poor decky gets bugger all as usual
