Ceiling Patching Question

I need a new exhaust fan in my room but the hole is 300mm and I want an inline fan which only needs a 280mm cutout.. They left the cutout above the hole but am I better off cutting a square bit of gyprock secured to batons and taping the seams rather than reinstalling the 300mm cutout and just plastering the circular seam.

Square..
Square.. then get some furring channel.
then cut and run the two pieces either
side just off the edges by 50mm screw up
screw in new square then paper tape not
that mesh shit and at least 3/4 of a trowel
either side of joins as your treating it as
a butt join ! Not like a recessed joint .
two coats of base at least to flatten it
out then top coat ! Sand if still not happy
retop till flat .. good luck cheers pirate
