cairns fishing?

mums moving to cairns and i was wondering if theres any shorebased fishing to be had there as ill be going to see her a few times a year...
we might invest in a small tinny aswell.

Worked with a bloke from there for a whilst and he reckons the close in stuff has been flogged. Still GT,s and queenies. I have looked into it and I reckon jump on a ferrie to some of these islands and give them a go. Some of the accomodation is cheap like 20-30 p/n to camp. It would get you away from crocs as well. There are some freshwater dams around that way as well. Tinaroo from memory is 1 of them. Remember to keep an eye out for tropical nastys. Hope this helps a bit
