They have completed about 80% of the jetty, just need to wire it up. They are expecting it to be done by christmas....what year is the next question. haha.
It's really quite frustrating, because it's not unsafe or anything, they just want to open the whole thing at once and make a big day of it (which is fair enough i guess).
At present, you can only get into the gift shop.
A couple of locals went around the fence one evening and got two mulloway, 40 and 50 pounds....so i reckon when shes reopened, there are going to be some monster fish out there.
Up untill late 1999 there was full access to the whole length of the structure. In Dec 1999 there was a fire which burnt out about 60m of the wooden structure (close to the end) which was left untouched untill the current reconstruction.
Previous to Dec 1999 the end of the jetty was arguably the best land accessable fishing spot in southern WA where you could catch Samson fish, Yellowtail Kings, Southern Bluefin Tuna, Bonito, Mulloway, Pink Snapper and even the occasion small Dhuie amoungst a host of others.
This really has left a massive hole in the local Rec fishery and now due to thoughtless decisions made by local government even a complete reconstrution won't even renew one of WA's most loved fishing spots.

Shire have waffled on as usual - this thing has more opening dates than John Farnham has farewell tours.
