in fear of getting Flamed...what about the rovex range??
this is purley a suggestion and not substaniated on anything but "some" of thier rods are really nice and and would be pretty closely asociated with Penn i would imagine
I bought a rovex duren for my dad, and fished it pretty hard for a couple of weeks when i was in tasmania, represents true value for money and was very impressed. It caught everything from 1-2kg salmon (they don't get many as big as we do in WA.. the average size is about 2kg so i've heard) and squid to 2kg! cootas, Snotty trevally (similar to skippy) and large flathead.
For a sub 100 reel, i would definately buy it again.
Whether or not it stands the test of time? I dont know.
I've got two Rovex's that I have had since 2005 and handed onto my son. Besides one handle cracking they been good value for him in chase for blowies and skippies...lol
I like the budget Penn Accord range as well, with two in the boat as "loaners" for mates and kids who don't have their own.
shimano sienna or rovex aureus 4500 is probaly the best the drag is silky smooth and its carbontex type drag and a spare spool when that breaks you got spare drag washers for other reels and upgrade those that have felt ones, locally though best buy is a shimano sienna for out of the box perfomance, sourced from online places that $100 goes a long way.

Go and look at the range
Go and look at the range from Okuma, they make some very good gear for a good price.

It would depend on the size.
It would depend on the size. A shimano sedonna is not a bad reel for around $100 but only in the smaller sizes 1000-4000 I think.
