Hi, is there any good snorkeling in Broome? Heading up there for a few day for work in Sept, staying near Cable Beach. Any info would be great as haven't been there since I was a young bloke.

No Snorkeling
Matt,
I lived in Broome for 6 years and there was 2 things that I and my mates never did. One was cleaning fish by a river bank and the 2nd was snorkeling. Tides, sea snakes, sharks and crocs where just a couple of things that kept me out of the water. Rowley Shoals is the best place, but out of most peoples reach.

It depends where you come
It depends where you come from and what you're into.
Broome is not a coral environment. It is a big sponge plateau with lots of pearl shell of course so if you're expecting Ningaloo you're gonna be disappointed.
If you are a capable freediver there are some good spots for spearfishing depending on the tides. September is cutting things close though. Easterly winds provide the clear water and good vis.
Ridel beach with it's fringing coral reef can offer good snorkeling on a clear day. Of course the tides on the day dictate conditions.
