Bream on soft plastics? What action?
Submitted by kingston81 on Wed, 2009-11-04 21:23
Hi All,
Been browsing the site for a while, thought it was about time I put my first post up hit you lot up for some hints/tips!
Went down to Garrat St Bridge in Bayswater this evening trying to get some Bream on soft plastics.
Tried gulp grubs (motor oil colour) and minnows (pumpkinseed colour) and didn't even get a bite!
Eventually gave up and switched back to traditional bait. Got a decent bream on about my 3rd cast!
I don't think it's the placcies I was using, more the action I was applying to them.
Does anyone have any tips for me on this?
Was getting the placcies right in amongst the pylons but not even getting a touch at all.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

best bet is to avoid bait
then you HAVE to concentrate on plastics.
it amazing how fast you learn when you are forced too...
action depends on soft plastic used.
prawn style to skip it across the bottom or bonce it down the drop off.
weedless you just drift with the current and imitate an injured baitfish.....
technique depends on plastic used and environment you intend to use it in..just think like the bait and react the action through the rod.
best bet is to cast in clear water (pool for example) and learn how the twitch of the rod/wrist imparts action throught the rod-line onto the plastic. then you know what you are doing without actually seeing the plastic itself...
three golden rules....;
always rig the plastic striaght and swim it before you fish;
lightest jighead possible; and
imitate the prey and MATCH THE HATCH...
practice makes perfect and remember even the pros have fishless days although you wont see that on TV.......
just experiment

placcys
ok first of all dpends on time of day and water clarity.
middle of the day and clear water i use a slow movement usually a wriggler stye placcy (squidgy wrigler bloodworm) just slowly lift rod tip
daker water not so clear i will opt for a 3 inch bass minnow in pearl water mellon with a sharper retreive as it is a minnow style you can get them to do all kinds of cool stup like getting them to dart from side to side up down etc wich wil usually get the fish to strike every time.
also depends on were you are fishing
up river i use bass minows
round narrows i use snapbacks or squidgys wriglers in bloodworm and royal perth down i use
atomic grubs pumpkin seed or grass minnow
and snap back in bloodworm (wrigler style)
if you are deep around structure i find it is also handy to use the gamakatsu worm g-lock and wrap lead wire round the back of the hook creating a weedless hook i usually use the eyeball tails from next one in illusion or watermellon in this sirtuation because the plastic is sinking slower, the ribs on the eye ball tails are constanty moving creating vibrations . the retreive there is more of a rod tip lift aswell. hope this helps mate and remember 1 thing if all else fails whak on gulp as it will always turn a fish.
