Boatigo? Anyone checked this out?

Anyone sussed out this Boatigo mob? only just launched and looks like Uber for boats?
You list your boat and list when you're going out and when youve got a spare seat and people can pay to come out with you.
I'd say it runs under the concept of people helping you cover your expenses for going out rather than comming across as a commercial outfit.
Sound like a fair enough idea, I'd be a little bit wary of the implications if you were caught being "Paid" to take people out fishing etc?

"I'd be a little bit wary of the implications if you were caught being "Paid" to take people out fishing" - very much so. You can't accept payment on a recreational skippers ticket is my understanding. You can share expenses but if you organise it formally through a website and state a $ amount that may be seen as a commercial activity.

If you can prove contribution
If you can prove contribution provided was approx half the fuel cost you would have no issues.

This was up on their fb page but was deleted quickly by the looks, wonder why? Lol
Boatigo, are you saying that Fisheries WA and their FTOL department are fully supportive with an organisation like yours taking money for organising people to get out on recreational boats? and recreational skippers taking money for recreational trips regardless if it’s deemed to be “offset” their costs?
Also what about the boat owners insurance? does it also cover full public liability for paying/contributing people?

I considered something very similar years ago and when I looked into it was not allowed to take payement to take people fishing you could not register it as a business on those grounds. That said people can share costs you don't have to know them.

Looking like listing a boat
Looking like listing a boat may be fraught with the risk of fines. AMSA have decided to pursue people who use the app. I would think fisheries may be an issue too.

Looks like they are trying to rally the recs against the influence of charter operators & AMSA.

Trying
Yeah the guy is trying hard to make it come across as "AMSA Taking away Boaties choices" which is BS, AMSA only have a problem with it because Boatigo is profiting from people paying to go on recreational boats. He is trying to make is look like AMSA are going to step in and smash you for taking a make out and then splitting fuel but its just not the case.
It should all die off soon enough hopefully.
