Man, boy, 6, rescued after boat sinks off City Beach

Mr Imray and Luke - who had both been wearing life jackets spent two hours in the water before the RAC Rescue Helicopter found the missing father and son about four nautical miles off City Beach.
The pair were winched to the helicopter and taken to Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital where they were treated for mild hypothermia.
The emergency rescue helicopter started the search after Mr Imray activated the boat's digital EPIRB.
Ms Bouquet said she became aware of her missing son and grandson when police rang her asking if she might know where he was and if he had gone fishing.
She said she eventually tracked down his car to Hillarys marina but then faced an agonising wait as the rescue helidopter began searching for the pair.
They're buying a Lotto ticket tonight.

2 lucky people. how could a
2 lucky people. how could a rope around the prop sink a boat?. the only way i can see is the rope was anchored somehow (maybe cray pot ) with rough seas the boat would then be pulled down then filling with water.At least they had the sence to activate the epirb and wear life jackets

Happens more often....
...then you might think. Last year 3 out of 4 blokes died off Florida when they tried to unsnag their anchor by tying it to the stern cleat and driving forward...pulled the arse-end down and sank, leaving them in the water 50nm offshore for the best part of 24 hours (apparently Epirbs aren't mandatory in Florida).
When I was living in Jurien I remember a 5m cuddy cab nearly sinking when a crayrope fouled the prop in windy conditions...again, transom pulled underwater, boat filling up, they were saved when a crayboat came up, tied a rope onto their bow, and literally launched them up onto a near plane, rapidly draining the boat in the process.
So, be very careful around crayropes and tying the anchor off to the back end isn't recommended either.

Heard its possible to do with the anchor bouy system, if the anchor has become snagged on the bottom

Boat Found
Vessel was located 500mtrs of Ocean Reef Marina earlier this morning and towed back to Ocean Reef for the owner to collect. Had a look at it. It was about 4mtrs in length an had a centre console with cover. He told us that he had run out of fuel and was changing tanks when waves started coming over the transom. Vessel had very little free board all around. Looking at the vessel there was no way I would have taken a six year old out in the conditions, given the forcast. We were out of Scarborough towing a vessel back to Hillarys at about 10.30am and the seas were about 1.5 - 2 mtrs. If he had to go fishing should have stayed closer to Hillarys.

Boat Location
From infomation we have approx 4kms offshore. Hard to get rope around prop in that depth unless it was cray rope, but we saw hardly any cray pots in the area.

the sea is like a pet lion, no matter how tame it becomes and how good you are, it will sooner or later try and eat you.
They very lucky, but why did he not have a radio to get his position out with and call in other hehlp?
Also a sea anchor would have kept his bow into the sea and saved him a lot of grief.
Whats more I hear he is not insured, poor bugger, but they alive and the boat has been recovered, so not all is totally lost.

Saw the bloke on the news
Saw the bloke on the news last night pulling the boat out of the water.
From what I saw I wouldn't have been taking a 6yo out in that boat in Saturday's conditions.
But to give the bloke some credit at least he had all the safety gear on board and had lifejackets on (or close enough st hand to get them on quick)
He also reckons that his wallet with $2000 in it also went over the side, if that is true then he surely had a sh*thouse day
