Boat casting combo
Submitted by Sekans on Thu, 2009-05-14 18:28
I'm looking at buying a new rod and reel to use for casting lures off the boat. I would like to use it for a range of species, from herring and gardies to maybe salmon and tailor. I think I want something around the 7 foot mark. Any recommendations on a new rod and reel combo up to about $150 would be great. I'm not looking for anything flash, just something that would do the job.
Thanks guys.

as above
I'd save just a little more if you can.
You'll get a starlo stix rod for $100 or a bit under and then match it to a 3000 - 4000 size reel (mainly for salmon that sizing). Maybe keep your eyes peeled in the classified section for a pre-loved bargain?

check out the penn applause combos at bcf they have them set up on penn powerstick rods which are pretty good rods. good for casting metal slices which is what ure gonna be doing for tailor herring and salmon. they come in a few different size ranges too
