Barra setup?

Hey all you Barra professionals out there...

Was curious as to how you all setup your rig for live baiting for Barra? I usually will have a small to medium(depending on current at the time),  running sinker on 60-80lb leader down to a single hook on the bottom with the livie thru the back.

Ive been told recently that this is not the best way to do it. Because this will put the livie on the bottom to swim around.  I should be using a paternoster type set up with a sinker on bottom and a single hook on a loop about 1-2m up the leader depending on how deep you are fishing too. This will put the livie swimming around the mid-high water column where the Barra attack from below like they do with lures, due to Barra sitting on the bottom of the creek looking upwards waiting to attack...

Was wondering if anyone had an opinion of this. Next time im home im going to try it out and see how it goes too.... Cheers. Mark.

mate, i use a size 0 to 1 or even a 2 ball sinker when ilive bait, exactly the same as you described, always 80lb leader.

Smaller sinker for less currnet

i have never had any problems

mate at the end of the day it really dosnt have to be so technical, barra are opportunistic and believe it or not, relativly stupid

if they see your bait, and they are hungry they will eat it

keep doing what your doing,

paternosta may work well for some, each to there own but it certainly isnt my prefered

He knows his shizznit!

And at the end of the day, you can try new methods, no harm in giving it a crack. But if it's no good, then go back to doing what you know works.

Q for the Pilbara boys

so 80lb... how long should it be? Also, would you recommend braid-leader via knot or swivel?

Thanks in advance,

Damo

knott, i use an all

knott, i use an all bright

single strand braid mainline to leader

a lot of people tie a double first, again each to there own but to me it is a bit of overkill.

I dont use swivel's

if your live baiting, i like at least a meter of leader, perhaps a little more mabey 1.2 but it dosnt have to get too technical mate, enough leader to serve its purpose.
