assist's catching jigs

having probs with a couple of jigs catching themselves yesterday. the gape was pretty much the width of the jig.
do you use assists that are much bigger than the width of jig , or smaller??

yep... smaller or
yep... smaller or bigger.
Assuming you were using slim jigs for sambos... then use a bigger assist hook.
With fatter/wider flutter jigs, you can get away with smaller assist hooks or assists that don't foul.
Best to run the inner hook gape along the jig to see if it catches just to be sure.

Assist hook sizes...
If you're mainly chasing sambos and other large fish with long jigs, go with bigger hooks.
If its smaller shorter jigs for other "smaller" fish, go with smaller hooks.

I saw a video of fellas
I saw a video of fellas jigging up ytk's over east once and they kept a bag of rubber bands on board to do a few loops round the jig. Holds the assist in place and will snap off at the force of a sambo/amber hit very easily. Might not be a very good environmental thing though
