Anyone have Encyclopedias?
Hi Guys,
Does anyone have a set of encyclopedias hanging around, or a set looking for a good home. After a "world Book or Brittannica" set.
I know this is not reallyabout fishing, but my 11 year old is in the "why" stage - I get inundated with questions about how does a boat work, what causes tides, what type of fish is that, who decided to fish with a rod, etc...etc...etc...
It never seems to stop and he does not remember the answers year to year.
So, I was hoping to get hold of a set of encyclopedias to give to him to answer all these questions, as he likes to read, and hopefully, he will retain the info if he searches, reads, absorbs it from a book.
I do not want him to be reliant on a pc all the time, so not after a cd, but the actual books - please check in your shed, garage, nan's house etc..
I am willing to pay for them and collect around Perth!

I dont have a set, but i do know that probably the best/cheapest place to get it would be the Save the Children Book sale at UWA which is held once a year (july i think).
With the britannica, the leatherbound sets are still very expensive...
in the meantime there is a fantastic website www.howstuffworks.com which has practically the answer to anything.
otherwise, there is always the library....

Encyclopedias
Dave, try your local Salvos or St Vinnies store. They may have a set in stock, and generally only ask a few bucks. I once managed a business next to a Salvos store and they threw out sets of encyclopedias regularly. People still donate them, but there is almost no market for them, so they usually go straight in the bin. I am sure if you asked at a store, they would hold a set for you.
One hiccup though is that the donated sets are often pretty old, so some information is inevitably a bit out of date.

Have a set World Book I think they are, not very recent though.
Am over east for work this week so can't check until I get back on Sunday but would be happy to see them go to someone who would get some use out of them.
