Anyone go out today??

did anyone else head out today.

I was checking Seabreeze all week and it looked sweet untill last night when they changed the prediction.  We headed out from Woodies at about 6ish anyway with 3 newbies on board, heading for the West End to troll up some Mackies.   Got to just before Carnac and hit a crazy washing machine chop that only got worse and worse.  Ended up busting through it and put some lures out, trolled for about 3 hours all around the West End, conditions got worse, I got more annoyed.    We ended having a bottom bash out that way and picked up some Skippy, then turned for home with a big following sea.

All in all a pretty frustrating day and lousy conditions.  I ended up rigging lines for everyone all day, tying knots and doing all usuall fishing lessons to help people that haven't fished much which was fine, just tough out there.  The highlight of our day was a Mutton Bird picking up a small Tuna skirt that I had shotgun and then getting it hooked through the beak.  I was flying a kite for a while there.

Did anyone do any good??  Any Mackies around

 Would have been pretty

Would have been pretty shitty out there.

We had all intentions of going out today, but as you said before the forecast went to crap. Instead opted for a sleep in and yard duties.

Hopefully Monday might be the go, have to get a fish in sometime over the easter break!!

Sat, 2011-04-23 18:13

yeh mate.

we were commited to going out from o/reef...and it was crap. nothing worth mentioning!!!

pulled the pin fairly early and back home by 12.30.

to top off the day, the ticket machine stole $2 from me and made me short by 20c to get a ticket...............

...but i got a ticket in the end, just not the one i wanted...... $60 fine......

when are they gunna bring machines that except notes as well? or a bankcard...not everyone has a visa card.

good move steve, we should of done the same! as soon as we come around the heads it was crap, should of canned it straight away!

see you monday hopefully, its looking much better.

we did get smashed on the placcys over and over again, big teeth marks and chuncks missing.

cheers ron

Bad luck on the parking fine

Sat, 2011-04-23 18:36

Bad luck on the parking fine Ron, I've had some colourful conversations with those prick machines from time to time. Seems they might be red hot down there at present, I picked up a discarded parking fine there the other week and put it in the bin, do people actually think if they toss it the problem goes away??

Pretty crap that they can

Sat, 2011-04-23 18:59

Pretty crap that they can give you a ticket for their machine's screwup.

I always leave a message with the contact number on the unit, and that has so-far saved me from fines.

Launched from hillarys about

Sat, 2011-04-23 19:01

Launched from hillarys about 9, after a ramp check by DOT, with the intention of a troll around 3 mile.

Conditions were sloppy to say the least. Pulled the pin by noon as the fun factor was fading and the ice box was empty.

All ticket machines at hillarys were out of order. Wrote a note to the effect and placed it on the dash.... no fine.

 Headed out from woodies also

Sat, 2011-04-23 19:57

Headed out from woodies also at 6 and got our 30 squid pretty quickly, had 2 pulls of 10 crab nets for nothing, cruised out to Carnac for a swim and to get one of my seasick deckies onto dry land for a bit before having a fish down along GI and landed heaps of baby pinkies up to 40cm and a giant spikey Gurnard thing that had me calling for a decant snapper after a solid few minutes fight on the light gear! Back to the ramp before midday... certainly not the nicest day on the water with that wind!

Sea Breeze lied to me again !!!

Sun, 2011-04-24 07:03

I was all set for a Saturday launch at 3pm till early hours Sun, but after checking seabreeze 10 times (kept hoping for it to change)  went down to Hillaries and watched boats returning it looked like sea breeze was right and was going to worse, but then the wind eased later and would have been a perfect night out there!!! gutted.

At least got a few rigs sorted out for Monday, lets hope all stays good for then.

Anchor up, Burley up, Bring them on !!!!

2 rocks

Sun, 2011-04-24 07:59

Was shit house. It took us 25 mins to get to the 3 mile, and only got worse from there. We made the turn and headed back in and enjoyed a 9am carpark corona to ease the stench of defeat.

On a happier note, at least the kilo of squid that cost us $20 (that's right, $20) from the theives at the servo is still good for another day.....

hard work

Sun, 2011-04-24 20:49

My partner a mate and i left woodies at 530 and were heading to the westend for a troll, the sound was nice and flat but as soon as we got past carnac i new it wasnt goin to be pretty as it seemed to already blowing about 10-15 knots we bashed our way to rotto straight into a norwester only managing about 13knots in the caribean reef runner. We arrived at the south side of rotto and set out our spread and the conditions didnt seem to bad until we rounded the west end,it was atrosious with about a 8ft wind chop coming from a totally different direction from the swell. We were going vertical over one wave and nosediving into the next,we continued to troll down the southside towards the westend until it got to rough then turned around. My missus hooked and landed one mackie that would of been very close to 20kg,a few photos and it was released as ther is no way it would of fit in our esky plus we had plenty of mackie fillets from the weekend before
