I took my , Triton (motorcycle) down for rego today and it was knocked back , first told it dosnt have indicaters, my reply they didn't have them in 1963 , its a strange looking bike what is it , a Triton , never heard of them , well you wouldn't have its a custom built bike a cross between a Norton and a triumph, nahh well not regoing that mate . what makes me mad is the fact that my 1934 rudge and 1962 Norton dominator are on full rego , and yet my triton whould be the best handling and braking of the 3 of them do I just make up a dodgy number plate or what , I could swap the plate from my dominator and the cops would never know , but I shouldn't have to do that

To be honest
good luck I reckon.
as you said being a custom build I am sure you have put plenty of blood, sweat and beers into this machine over the build process. The problem now is no one from dpi would be willing to make a calculated judgement that all is above board and that the bike is more than fit for purpose.
Back in in the day when some of my mates were fitting 13b turbo's engines to the old shape mazda's like rx2's and rx3's, you could get them engineered and licensed with dpi. Now they won't even entertain the idea.
I hope you eventually get it registered ok in the end but I fear there may be a long road ahead.

that is a fair comment , but my mate has reticently had his restored eh holden passed over the pits and it has a 186 red motor with no drama and we all know they didn't come out with them in them same inspection depo

Welshpool
Have a chat to the guys out at Welshpool - may need to ring first to check that the AIS / mods guys are still located there but they do all the engineering etc. You should be able to discuss options i.e. whether you can road register with appropriate mod permits, or if you can only get a limited registration. Might take a while....
Might get some useful info if you have a dig around here - on Transport Website under 'My Vehicle' - 'Modify a vehicle' (can't post a link for some reason)

Did this happen at Mandurah
The person employed at the Mandurah licencing centre is totally incompetent.
I took my boat trailer to get it relicensed (rego expired my mistake).
I was told by this sun of Einstein that I needed to have this that and some things that I have never heard of.
So off I go check up the legislation on the net, and all of the things that he wanted me to do are relevant for the manufacture of new trailers since (don't recall the date).
So back I go and inform him that the legislation is not retrospective and relates to the manufacture of new trailers manufactured since (don't recall the date)... my trailer was manufactured before this date as the builders plate states.
This was like a red rag to a bull, he ranted and raved and told me in no uncertain terms that unless I complied with his requirements that the trailer would not be licenced.
Went to Rockingham licencing/inspection centre, result trailer licenced thank you very much have a nice day.

Rego it as whatever
Rego it as whatever chassis/frame you used. If you used the Norton frame then rego it as a 62 Norton. If you try and rego as a new make ie Triton then you will have to comply with modern rules.

thanks mate
I think I will go with that , problem is I have triton on the tank , they do ask for engine numbers as well as frame numbers , any half switched on vehicle inspector will notice the number's don't match

Mate get an engineer to
Mate get an engineer to certify it then take it over the pits, an automotive engineers qualification is far superior to what any of the guys at the pits have and they really cannot argue with you once you present certification. They can still pick other issues like leaks etc though.

Hope it works out, but I had
Hope it works out, but I had a mate that modified a postie bike, and he struggled, as they default to the position of " if it is rebuilt or modified in any way, it needs to comply to modern standards", they told him that unless it is completley origional, with licence paid up and rego'd, since first date of registration, its a rebuild.
I chatted to that old dude in Rocko with the old Red Indian, always on the foreshore on Sunday mornings, and he said his bike has been rego'd, since the day he bought it, so he may keep it like that, but without indicators, he is restricted to daytime riding only.
Chat to someone in the Uyllesses club too, they may point you the right way, good luck - let us know how you go..
Cheers,
