my bro in law just got one

Sat, 2010-09-11 19:11

my bro in law just got one from america i think its a striper?? anyway he got the check done over there before he bought it but it still came with some problems. one major one was the trailor, was a good trailor but as america doesnt have restrictions like us it was too wide for over here so he would have needed permits to drive it around.  if you were getting a new boat it would obviously take the risk away but if you were going 2nd hand to get a bigger/better boat for ya $$ then do your research!

trophy ,boston whaler, striper wellcraft all have great bling look for something with out timber internals most have glass stringers now. These hulls are not built as solid as oz built boats i would by oz over import all day long eden craft ,cyclone, haines hunter ,cruise craft all built for our rough conditions in saying this i have spent a lot of time tournament fishing on trophys on the east coast  and cant fault them.

Sorry Nico, but I really can't believe what you have written!

There are some well built local boats but in general the fit and finish on the US boats is miles ahead of whats available locally.

Yeah, must get a longer holiday in next time I'm in Exmouth.

I don't deny that there are some good locally built boats, and you do have to appreciate a good custom fitout from a local builder, but I still think that your average yank boat is better thought out than your avg aussie boat.

custom aussie boats no1

Sat, 2010-09-11 22:12

Well fit and finish might have to go to the likes of cyclone ,monster, force, eden craft, formula and not to forget north shore and , fury here in the west. Go custom built with full vinylester stitch cloth hulls klegecell foam core internals hand lay up, vacuume bag may be infusion do some major stainless bling alluminium trailer twin rig with custom built features to your own liking it is not hard to build wow factor. Then you have a top notch rig fit, finish, build quality Support these small boat builders who struggle to compete even against the aussie boat building giants all good solid well built hulls. If we were all given the support and backing i am sure we would be up there with the yanks the imports are killing this countries marine industry people buying cheap imports then selling for bucklies some 2,5 at a time then moving on to another shipment.Of course this is my opinion and who am i to talk aussie aussie aussie.Winki dont mean to offend anyone but i am very passionate about the boat building in this country and worked with some of the masters of boatbuilding in australia and seen the quality first hand of what has and could be built in this awesome country of ours.

I would try to support local boat builders

Sun, 2010-09-12 08:28

However i think the quality & service that some let themselves down on may push people to go abroad. I believe if you buy factory direct you can get what you want as in specs but the quality still needs to be there.

It is not limited to smaller builders aswell as i have seen some major brands getting let down by the after sales service of the distributor.

Unfortunately in this day and age pride in your work is a dying attribute not just in the boat industry. I know very cynical but just my opinion.
