Alutecnos Jigging Rods... Which one ... and what reel?
I'm looking at buying another Jigging outfit. At the moment I have a Ryobi Metaroyal 5000A Safari spooled with 50lb braid on a Shimano Jigwrex S526. Absolutely awesome outfit but I want something lighter as well.
I have been looking at the Alutecnos jigging rods and see they have the FRJ006LG (6/12lb) that supports a spinfisher type reel and handles 80/170g jigs. They also have mainly overhead jigging sticks and if I was to go there the FRJ015SP (15/30lb) that handles 150/270g jigs looks ok as well.
My questions are:
1. Are the overhead jigging sticks (in this case the FRJ015SP (supports 150/270g jigs)as good as the ones designed for spinfisher reels? (eggbeater reels) If so, what would be a good reel to match to this stick? And where is my best place to buy this stick?
2.If I was to go with the FRJ006LG stick, (Supports 80/170g jigs) What would be the best reel to match this outfit and again, where would my best bet be in purchasing this rod? I'm rather inclined to go with this outfit but await members comments.

I know that Campbells have the Alutecnos jig sticks (although according to their website not in the size you want).
I would presume that the overhead and spinning model uses the same blank and components and therefore there shouldn't be any difference?
Regarding overhead reels I wouldn't look at anything else for jigging other than the Daiwa Saltiga Z30 and the heavier Z40... light, super strong, beautiful smooth drag, small in size to fit in your hand when jigging.

Havent seen any of the spin
Havent seen any of the spin ones in the flesh, but was playing with an overhead one when I was looking for a overhead jigging rod and its a very nice, parabolic blank. You can load it up without feeling much weight at all. Grip was a bit too large for my liking though.
Have you played around with the rods yet? Might not be so prudent to get a rod you havent held and cant find :p.
Spinning combos are much easier to jig with all day than an overhead setup (though I do have an overhead for sambos which is fine), so I'd be more inclined to go with one of those (especially for the jigging style i suspect you'll be using).
What strength line are you thinking of putting on it, as I think that would be the main thing in determining the reel choice.

here is a pic of mine being loaded up. i can assure you, they are virtually unbreakable, and i will buy nothing less than this rod from now on. worth EVERY SINGLE CENT.

Thanks for the advice all. Think I might head up to Perth and visit Campbells in the next couple of weeks and play with some. Have checked out the Campbells website and they certainly have plenty of this brand in stock.
On another note, good to hear from you Matt, what have you been up to? If ever you plan on coming down this way again...? PM me. Only too happy to take you out again.
Plan on doing some serious jigging for Snapper down here both Saturday and Sunday.
