good brands to look for are harimitsu's, yo-zuri's, shimano egixile's, kanji, yamashita, evergreen, the list is massive. for your first few jigs get a pink and a brown that will cover most areas. i would get the pink in 3.0 and the brown in 2.5.
as for sizes i prefer the 3.0s but some prefer bigger or smaller. there is cases where you migh need bigs or smalls. examples for smaller jigs is the river where 2.5 is the max i use. have a look on some of the japanese website for a look at all the jigs for sale.
ive only had two of them and didnt like them, dont you find they have weak as hooks? mine had so weak hooks i couldnt even pulling a piece of seaweed, not happy through them in the cheap jig box. but looks like you have used them with sucess.
They do have weaker hooks but I've never pulled any on a squid. On the other hand, having weaker hooks has actually saved a couple when snagged up. They are not up to the quality standard of yo-zuris, etc but for some reason they just really work for me.
It's probably about the weight balance vs how I use them. Land based I don't get many on them (aggresive jigging) but on the yak they go crazy for them (slower, more vertical and 'twitchy').
Haven't done much squidding since selling the tiny, but daiwa esmereldas yamashitas, evergreen egi bancho or ocean fleet, not really liking gesola or breeden.
Its got less drag my E-GEE has only 3kilo of drag so that when the squid pulles it will take some line as well at the rod loading up. also its lighter and the gears are more interlocked so when you doing the aggressive ripping style it will last longer and less wear and tear hopefully lol. also the sallower spool its more finesse and fine tuned, its only fits 150m of 0.8PE on it. hope that sort of helped.
Further to that, the drag has finer adjustments than normal. The shallow spool is also a bit lighter meaning you get the casting distance advantages of a wider spool without the extra weight.
alfred could i suggest that if your squidding hillarys try the jingo rocketeer jigs in pine green . ocanside or allboats will be able to ge them no worries they have been one of the more productive jigs aswell as the white sephia egixile jigs.both in 3-3.5
pretty much yes but dont get fixated on those rules, mix it up. i might need a 3.5 for land based as well as the say 2.5 and vise versa in the boat as the wind might die out and you might need that 2.5 for them confusing animals but there sooo tasty and fun to catch. i love squid. if you get some spare time go on youtube and search egi, squidding, egi/squidding and you will get heap and heaps of videos, most made in japan that help with the technique then there some australain ones that help out alout as well. theres one but yamashita in english about the colours for time of day and under foils very interesting.
if your interested in any of the jigs send me a pm and we can talk then.

I'm a big fan of the R2S Gesolas.
2.5 and 3.0's. For colours, the orange and black, pink and black and below are good.

squid jigs...
As you can see there's plenty to choose from.
To narrow it down, pick the right size first. The bigger it is, the quicker it sinks.
You fishing from the shore or the boat?
Boat, I'd recommend 3.0 to 3.5
Shorebased, 2.0-2.5 for jetties and obviously deeper channels, up to 3.5.
Colors, I start with dark colors at first light and as the sun comes up and gets higher, go with brighter colors.
Brand wise, you can't go wrong with all the japanese brand. I favor the yo-zuri and gancraft for the range of sink rates and colors.

Cheers guys, thanks for the info and tips.
So pink, orange and brown are the colours to go for, dark colours when dark and brighter colours in bright sunshine.
3 - 3.5 for boats and deeper channels and smaller for LB/shallow.

colours
for me - the white glow in the dark ones work for me when the sun is down.
while the pink , black and blue when the sun is up
size depends on drift and depth
the 3 that danno has that are the same are good on sunset
Reverse cycle a/c supply and install - Ducted and wall splits

Jingo Rocketeer!
I would definitely get some of these because even if I never caught a squid on one it would be one of the coolest named lures in my tackle box!
