About time - Dhu time
Its been nearly 4 months since the arm op so it was time to hit up some deeper fish, not Harpuka deep, just Dhuie deep.
Where was everyone? Two rocks at sunrise was empty; well we were the 2nd boat there…and upon return, we were the second last out. Only saw the one boat out there aswell.
Anyway, it was a bit choppy early, but very doable – pity the fish weren’t! A few release weight uses and a few humpies pushing north saw us through to midday.
A friend onboard had never seen whales from a boat before, so this made his day. The wind had dropped to nothing and still no decent fish onboard. Decided to head south to a spot that I found the last time out (over 5 months ago).
Drop, bang on – the result;
I was very happy. The arm is OK today too.
A couple more drops resulted in a couple of gummies – time to head in.

Nice fish Pete
Good onya. Surely the doc would agree that fishing is part of any rehabilitation process. :)

For sure, I think even with the op you're still ahead of me for dhufish over that time, so you clearly still have it.

I don't have scales Shabba, but my guess was around 10-12kg. I haven't lifted anything that heavy for awhile though.

Great one, Pete!
And on the little baitcaster...with the light gear I'm guessing you were driftbaiting in fairly shallow water? Anyway, sure beats winching them up on standard bottom-bashing gear!

Love the draft bait outfit.
Love the draft bait outfit. Dhu was pulled from 40m when the wind died off. Not much current either, so the little bean virtually dropped straight down.
Learnt a valuable lesson earlier in the day with the Penn International - abliet, the hard way.
If you known your line is out of alignment with the line feeder - then fix it. I only pulled out 60m of line previously to re-align. So, on a retrieve from the bottom about 10m off the bottom, wack and zing goes the line - probably a Sambo as it pulled bloody hard. Line peeled off real quick. About 20 metres (of miss aligned line) made it through before the inevitable ping at the line feeder...Doh.

at least you broke the
at least you broke the drought of 5 months with a nice eating size dhu, the line was probably too old and not used so it was time to replace anyway :)
