2010 SALMON RUN NEWS
Submitted by Colin Hay on Fri, 2010-02-05 08:47
Hi all, A few whispers are starting to filter out from down south that the salmon are starting to make an appearance.
I thought I would start this post so that anyone who hears any news (and I am really hoping it will be reliable news) of salmon movements can pass the information on.
I for one, am waiting to firm up my plans for some serious salmon forays this year. And I know there are a lot of other members who are doing the same, so we can help each other out here by keeping this post updated.
Thanks everyone, Colin

They are catching a few at windmills on the lighthouse side of the cape, went for a walk along Bunker Bay on sat arvo at high tide, not a cracker. Walked the beach to Rocky point and only fish getting caught were small herring.
They are coming

Salmon Everywhere
I headed down to my spot on the weekend and we had a ball using soft plastics. Released 10 in two hours of fishing - lost 5 or so and kept 2. Absolutely everywhere. They averaged between 6 & 8 kilo. I was surprised they'd be that size this early to be honest, I reckon it's a resident school as I've seen them there around x-mas time as well. Had 1 x 8 ft (estimate) Bronzy swim below us and 1 x 8 ft (estimate.) Hammerhead swim by as well. Had Sambo's chasing the plastics also but they wouldn't take them.
All in all for the weekend - 4 x Snapper, 2 x Salmon (kept) 10 x Salmon caught & released 5 x Salon lost, 4 x KG Whiting and 1 x Blue Groper 12kg. The Groper was an accidental catch as I try not to catch them. They can be a little tasteless even at 10 kilo but this poor bugger got smashed against the rocks so I had no choice but to keep it.
Heading down again this weekend for another crack at the Salmon.
Cheers, Higgo

Just got back from visiting the out laws down south and went to a wedding at Inji's, nice sized school getting smashed by dolphins during the ceremony. Bloody good distraction!
